The last few are for one if the herbie movie cars.
But this one?
http://www.thesamba.com/vw/classifieds/detail.php?id=1708793
I'm not doubting the amount he spent on "restoring" it, nor am I saying that it looks bad a la Snorkelstang. My simple quest to bring my herbie into a daily driver has proven that.
What I am saying is that I think the price may be way out of line. Unless there is proof that John Muir, Ferdinand Porsche, or some other famous VW person owned it.

I, personally am sooo over herbies!! move on already! lol there's a guy locally that has one. It's very nice and tastefully done, just not my cup of tea...Every single old lady i see at the store, or gas station constantly asks if I'm going to make mine a herbie....nope... |

Lots of people complaining about EMPI quality.
BUT- It is Funny how everyone rebuilds their Hurst shifter with you guessed it... EMPI parts. Without exception. I guess Hurst is a step below EMPI? Right?
Shut up already. Get your alternator, carb, and distributor somewhere else or be prepared to return 3 out of 10. Whoop de do.
Sway bars and flywheels are pretty hard to mess up. Common sense tells me a doghouse is a doghouse is a doghouse. Oh unless you prefer to pay a premium for a "heavy duty" doghouse. It's Guaranteed not to break...
Reminds me how everyone says they hate and never eat at macdonalds, but they still manage to serve billions daily. Lots of liars out there.
To prove me wrong, simply tell me who else sells the 2 prong insulated speedo bulb holder besides Empi. (1977 bug egr speedo)
Just my $.02
Oh, and my registry authenticated 68 Meyers Manx body cost too much... |

Here's a little positivity for this thread. This car is worth every bit of $17,500 IMHO. It doesn't get any more original than this. I'm surprised at some of the good deals found on the oldbug.com page. Some of those cars would be getting the ridiculous plus 10k numbers you see on other websites. If they were shown elsewhere. Yet they are only asking in the 5k to 6k range.
This one is a beauty at 17.5k:

I got an email from some troll offering this car to me for $6000. Used all the same pictures from Oldbug.com
Email sender was [email protected] and the message says,

In my experience, I have never seen anyone say this that actually knew what something was worth.
Kinda like the people at swap meets that say "These go for $500 online" but you can have them for $125 |
I only posted these priced high as everyone will try to negotiate. Yes I could of posted them for $300, but someone interested will always offer much less than the asking price most of the time. I was wrong by saying "I know what these are worth". I just wanted to get what I thought they were worth to me. |

This makes sense.
Myself, I will often bypass any ads I feel is massively overpriced unless I really need something as I feel they are probably not open to offers at a significant discount. _________________ How to Post Photos

I realize I live in California, and VW's are somewhat more expensive here, but geeze. I budgeted 1500 to pick up a project, and I can't touch one for that price.
No, I don't any specific link. Just whining! |

Yes ....agree totally. If you're selling something, you obviously have SOME expectation of what you'd like to receive for it ...so why not state it? At least you could list an expected price, and say 'reasonable offers will be considered'. I've been buying and selling vehicles for 30 years or more, and have NEVER run an ad without a price, and NEVER responded to an ad without a price.
Believe it or not, I've picked up newspapers in smaller towns, and they have complete sections of listings of houses and other properties for sale ...with NO PRICES listed. I guess they figure if someone is serious about buying, they'll make the effort to ask. (Plus ...they don't want the nosey neighbors to know how much they're asking for their house!! good grief.) |
