I have 2 passions Vintage VW's and Harley Davidsons. HD prices for example pushrods (remember 2 cylinders) $200. Rockerarms $200. Engine case $1154.99. Connecting Rods (2) $310. Cylinder heads (with valves and springs) $1040 each. Piston sets (2) $344. Cylinders only $200 ea. (cylinders require honing) Exclamation These are standard replacement prices. High performance parts are unbelievable. As you can see if you want to see someone with sticker shock watch me a VW nut when I look at the same parts at Harley Davidson. So yeah I complain about VW parts but I just put a top end on my 1600 single port, rebuilt heads, new cylinders (4) pistons and rings. Throwout bearing, transaxle mounts etc. for like $750. Razz

funny how we lose perspective. I am also building a Datsun roadster and some parts just aren't available. I have to laugh at people complaining about the quality of vw parts, when there are multiple suppliers for every single parts, and options on levels of quality. and I feel the pain on Harley parts, I have an old Ducati and while prices are unreal for parts. Harley does an excellent job in supporting their older models with parts, Ducati on the other hand focuses their efforts on apparel and "lifestyle products"

Yes, you are. Firstly, you're whining about a split part in the square window threads. Secondly, How many sets of aluminum split popouts have you seen in your lifetime?

I'll never understand the whole "patina" look. I'm not knocking it as some love it. To me, when I see any car that has paint like that, I think "that's too bad he's so broke that he can't afford to paint his car". I immediantly think a broke high school or college kid is driving his first beater.

Agreed. The owner sanded down areas to create "wear" and cleared over that.

It looked better In the "before" picture. At least the patina was real.

http://www.thesamba.com/vw/classifieds/detail.php?id=1772217 Shocked
just cause you spent that much (or maybe more) does not make it worth that much.
especially for all the cheaper mediocre parts installed

No foolin' this guy Mitchell's a clown shoe. For fun, I started counting the word "new" and made it to 45 before I lost track scrolling down. This genius has a push button door on one side and an icepick on the other. But does have "daisy" taillights. Way to out your new member self as a doofus.
