just cause you spent that much (or maybe more) does not make it worth that much.
especially for all the cheaper mediocre parts installed
So for $20K he couldn't be bothered to find a horn button in better shape? Looks like the one that came on my basket case rust bucket convertible. Also no trunk liner, Wiring cover, fuse box cover. He didn't repaint the shifter or replace or paint the coil.

Don't stop there... Completely incorrect interior, who knows what condition the steering wheel is in under that cover, didn't bother to remove or mask off the wipers or lights switches on the dash and you don't even get any deluxe moldings in the window rubbers. '65 is my favorite year but this one makes me mad. Someone will probably buy it though and incourage these prices to continue to skyrocket. I guess that's good for anyone trying to sell something, but damn it, I'm still looking for a new project... Evil or Very Mad

New user, first VW, typical "restoration" crimes. He'll have it for awhile- and never has the sale of a white hard roof '65 ever effected the beetle market at any price.

This is probably my favorite thread on this site. I think that it really helps people that might not know better get an understanding on what is fair market and what is a bit ridiculous. Too often I see something that I know is way overpriced and wonder why nobody is commenting on it. Then I wonder if maybe i just need to get with the times and realize that everything is getting more and more expensive. Crying or Very sad I would hope that anyone that is willing to spend $20,000 for any vehicle, or anything for that matter, will be at least a little knowledgable on the subject.

yes, the prices are rising but for top dollar asking price it better be as close to 100% correct as you can get it. On that 65 the cheap carpet is a dead give away right off the bat without a thorough critiquing. We can pick that one apart unmercifully Evil or Very Mad

Check this bastard of a car out for size. The "owner" wanted 350 to get rid of it quick, woth title in hand so I came over expecting to find a 67 that he claimed "was all original and had only 47,000 miles. My bullshit detector went sky high when i pulled up 100 yards off. To top it all off the vin was missing in the trunk, it had a shitty respray ,and the owner wouldn't let me remove the rear seat to look at the vin on the tunnel to match it up with the title I was looking at. The title was for an early October 66, but 2+2 equalled bullshit and shenanigans. I ran away quick fast and in a hurry.

Looks like a 1970 to me.. He wouldnt let you look at the vin stamped in the tunnel? Yup, somethings screams stolen or fishy. It may be worth a phone call to the police to report the guy. Let him explain it to the cops.

It looks like it was restored to a high standard with good parts. It's certainly priced on the high side for sure. Reality says it would cost more than $25k to have a bug restored by a professional shop to that level these days. I buried over $20k in parts and materials doing all the work myself on my 69 vert. I also did the top myself.

Too rich for my blood, but I must say it is a beautiful car! Wonder how it would do at a Mecum Auction?

But it's NOS doesn't that command high dollar?
Saw this add on FB: For sale original VW NOS parts. They are parts 111 105 707 A - Lager and one set of crankshaft bearings 111,198,453. The parts are new, in original boxes. Super condition. The price for these parts: $ 210 + $ 40 shipping around the world
