I bought my adapter from wolfgang. Cost $42 shipped. I dont think the one you posted will work?

Had to do a little grinding on it so that it would clear the nose cone, it is not just a bolt on and go.

It is solid mount.

after reading this old thread, along with some others that were posted up in another thread, it seems as though i buy that mount from wolfgang (which is ordered Very Happy) do some slight grinding on said mount so it will clear the nose cone, then it's butter correct?

or, based on another thread, i will have to do some "modification" to the nose cone for it to fit. just trying to get my duckies in a row before i rip out a split case in my 58 and run into problems.

oh by the way, hi, i'm brian, just sold my bay and scored a bitchin 58 panel Very Happy

Hey Brian! As a matter of fact I am researching the same solution. Got a big nut tranny and a 1641 I am putting into an early '59.
Just found out 2 days ago about the solid mount issue. Ironically I was sent here by the TCB!

I too am having this problem, but will solve it just a bit differently.

I have a April '59 SC with the early mount and it currently has a solid front mount. HATE IT!

I am going to use a beetle nose cone to drop the tranny but at the same time will fab a mount to use the OG rubber mount.

james it was pretty straight forward

solid mount onto the big nut nose cone and it went right in.

wolfsburgwest is where i got the mount from, it was really easy

edit: the solid mount isn't to bad imho i'v egotten about 150 miles of drive time so far. have no problems

do this on all my buses and trucks,I use Wolfgangs adapter, you have to have the nose cone nose ridge groung down a bit,use a non reverse light bus nosecone. You are going to want to use a 10mm threaded bolt(I believe the thread pitch is 1.5,might be 1.25 though) with a 15mm head on them rather than the usual 17mm head when you mount the trans to the adapter, use blue med loctite. Any good hardware store will have these,I use ones that are 30-35 mm long. The reason for the smaller headed bolt,..Clearance. Dont forget your New body ground strap.

Changed mine from the solid rattle trap Wolfgang to the stock style rubber.

Best new method is to use one of these from Ken King @ Concept1.

The complete kit comes with adapter, new pre-machined nosecone, and hockey stick! Totally bolt on. All you need is the early rubber mount, available from Wolfsburg West.

Edit Jan 14/2012: Kit now comes with a new powdercoated horseshoe mount as well.

Huge thanks to Ken at Concept1! Used his adapter, nose cone, and horseshoe bracket for my tunnel trans going into my '59 Single Cab.

Sounds like something is shifting once weight is put on it and causing the nose cone to bind slightly pinching the hickey stick. Check the front mount area for something just not right. Also use a floor jack to slightly jack up the front of the trans a very little amout to see if it helps or worsens the problem.

The way these are made, if the lower plate the bolts to the factory mount holes is off a little, it can transfer the weight to the snout of the nose cone and put a ever so slight force on the hockey stick area to cause it to bind. The nose cone is machined to fit the adapter and the machining takes off the cast in factory braces tht brace the hockey tube area.
