Those look pretty similar to me with the exception of the bolt in the pivot mech and the adjusting nut.

I thought that a 1950-1952 vert had a unique mirror, a 1952 through 1957 were almost the same, with the only difference being the 1952-1954 mirror had the single visor setup as standard equip and in 1954 the double visor bar straight across with the mirror attaching arm on the passengers side became standard equip...

I have a '71 Convertible, and it's nearly impossible to see a normal or small car behind the VW using just the stock mirror when top is down. It doesn't matter how tall or short the driver is, can't see over the top (yes, covered by boot). I rigged up an aftermarket mirror and bracket for top-down use just for safety, what have others done? This holds a slightly convex mirror about 5 inches above the top frame, so I can see over the folded-down top.

Thanks for the info and photos, are you guys sure about the 57 looking like the earlier mirrors, my 57convert came as a basket case in boxes. The mirror that came with it would be like the 58-63 mirrors advertised for sale Is it possible there may have been a mid year change? Also does anybody reproduce the passenger side visor.

It was a late year change in 1958. Some of the early square window dash verts got the early 54-57 mirror as well, but if you have an oval dash 57 vert then the 58-63 is incorrect. My 1956 vert came with that same 58-63 mirror in it as well and I switched it out for the correct mirror. Since the 58-63 bolts right up and works perfectly, its a way cheaper replacement alternative.

As for repro'ing the passenger side visor, I dont know of anyone that does that. I'm sure a bunch of people wish they did.

They are from "The 1949-1959 VW Beetle" by Bob Wilson..great book, it really goes into detail about the Karmann vert mirror changes. I'm the one who uploaded them.

I'll have to look for that book! Is it still in print/production?
Thanks!
