I was just looking at this car. There a few things that seem off. Why is the the front trunk, dash all white and the rest is red? Even in the engine area is red. If you do a repaint these ussually don't get painted and if they do they are the same color. If you look in the trunk you will also see the brake fluid area from a later call but it still has the early one by the spare tire? I am not just saying the plastic pc look at the metal part that is built into the driver side fender well. Why does the white area end just below the doors?
I am interested in this car but almost seems like it was clipped.
Anyone know this person and give details? I am with in a hour drive but am not sure when I would be able to get over there.
Thanks |

Looks like it got a new front clip, including the front vent area and dash. All the way up to the windshield posts. Wonder what part has the 63 vin - nose, pan or the red part? |

Yeah your right. Cruz out- make a day of it and get some more pics. If it is a half-n-half it looks good from these pics. _________________

It does look suspect but it appears to have a lot of early stuff like an early dash cover, early defrost tube, correct early front apron.
Weird... it would interesting to see it in person. _________________ How to Post Photos

You can also see the white-to-red line on both rockers.

I just thought I would point out that this car is a '63 model by VIN # 0194850
Not too many 63 Sunroof Squarebacks around...
I don't know the seller or the car, etc., etc..
Someone recently told me there exists at least one '62 Sunroof Squareback with the early slide-back sunroof, I would love to see some photos. |
What brand sliding roof were they? Were they a Webasto with the "T" handle twist- slide- lock setup? Those were the best sunroof design ever. Benz used them from 1960 through as late as the '90s on some models. No mechanisms to break. I've often thought about adapting that mechanism to fit the incredibly crappy Golde crank roofs to eliminate all the problems. Would be cool to find out that Webasto was actually the first design! _________________ Немає виправдання для війни! Я з Україною.

Do I spy a type 1 alternator in there as well? Hmm....what's with the late model dual reservoir and the single reservoir in the trunk? Looks like just the single is functional. _________________ Robert K

The entire engine is incorrect; it looks like a 1967 or later. _________________ Немає виправдання для війни! Я з Україною.

And would that emergency flasher be in an early car? It has a trip odo in it but wouldn't the OG unit have the red needles? Not picking the car apart, but it does look like it has had a few 'mods' done to it though. _________________ Robert K

Looks like when they did the 12 Volt conversion, they did the whole shebang, gauges and all. Bet they had a '67 or '68 donor car. _________________ Немає виправдання для війни! Я з Україною.

Looks like the fenders arent correct either. If you look close you can see bondo marks where the side trim used to be on all 4. _________________ Frank

I talked to the guy today and the red portion is a 68. The pan is 64 as is the front clip. He said it was hit in the rear and he found a donor 68 that was hit in the front. 4 lug was already done when he got the car.
I plan to go look at it in the next day or so. |

When someone asks"why is this part on my car, isnt it suposed to be a...." question. The fact dosnt seem to dawn on people. The car is how old? Been through how many hands? Had all kinds of what repaired? Tons of history ending up in your hands. Its fun to see people point out the wrong stuff and wonder "why". The monkey in he man needing a puzzle to do. _________________
