I also talked to the guy earlier today and he said the same thing. Wouldn't that make the car a '68 with an early dash and pan? The sunroof is what makes it rare and it is from a '68. I think I know the previous owner unless this is another squareback in my area. This early square was in decent shape until it was rear ended badly on the 110 FWY a few years back. What the guy did was replace the whole section from the windshield posts all the way back while keeping the front hood, fenders and pan. About the four lug I don't know. I'll track my friend to see if this is his old square.

I talked to the guy today and the red portion is a 68. The pan is 64 as is the front clip. He said it was hit in the rear and he found a donor 68 that was hit in the front. 4 lug was already done when he got the car.

I plan to go look at it in the next day or so.

So it's basically a '68 body on a '64 pan (I still say '63 by that VIN #). Forget it.

All in all it looks ok. But if the sunroof section is a 68 then it does loose its "63" factor quite a bit. Chalk it up to a nice use of two T3s to make one.

wow, you guys are good... my little brain looked at the ad and said... 2 cars became one and he wants too much for the condition it is. never once did i think, "man, what is he thinking using parts from different cars?"

seems like it would have been more logical to locate a little earlier donor car without a sunroof, Then maybe he could have pulled it off as an original 63. Either way, it looks like a cool car & a fun project. I wonder what the specs of the motor are? Stock with big p&cs probably? What else can equal 1835cc's?

Well guys this lovely ride is at the type3nut garage now. I picked it up last night.

They did a real nice job putting the 2 together. Everything on the car works, runs good real solid car. Has camping hinges on the back seat.

I plan to put my wheels from the notch on it but have not decided if I will primer up and cruise it or if I will strip it down and paint it.

Either way it is fun to have driver again. I picked the kids up fro school in it today.

Later
Paul

see thats what I needed. keeps me motivated. Martin knows i get distracted easily.

8 years ago this gem came up on the samba and picked it up. I have been collecting parts doing a little here and there but parked it for about 2-3 years. July I sent it off to get painted and now starting the process of putting it back together. I am hoping to have it at the classic. But I have said that many times before.

thanks for the positive comments

The wheels are ICMP 15x4.5 so they work great for type 3s.

Did some more work on her this past weekend. Got all the fenders and fender beeding on. front bumper, turn signals, side markers rear scripts. Figured out I am missing some rubber pcs so an order to ISP will be soon. Figured out i have 3 different styles of euro headlights. now to find 1 that matches.

will post pics soon. I want it to look like something before I do.
