| A toy museum in Belgium sent my friend a picture of a child sitting in a car, exactly the same, from back in the day, so I'm pretty sure it's not the only one. I'll try to get the picture it might help to identify it. |

Any info on this tin model. The person it was bought off said he had it as a child so that makes it a 60's toy.
The battery carrier has fallen apart and is missing some parts. The interior printed metal is very nice.
Thanks for any info and a value would be nice !

At home:
Two Johnny Lightning 1/18 bugs (flamed and "junkyard" Herbie, both damaged Goodwill finds)
Poorly built and incomplete Burago New Beetle Cup found in a Dumpster
Yat Ming 1966 Ghia in fair condition with miniature coco mats I made to go with the PO-added paper "seatbelts", I hate the interior (highly inaccurate dash and door panels) with all my heart, but I love Ghias, so I tolerate it
Burago Porsche 356B T6 (brand-new shape, not purchased new though)
Beat-up pink Tootsietoy bug
Matchbox split and bay busses
Pictures of the above available upon request.
In storage:
Numerous New Beetle diecast models, Solido microbus and split bug, Hot Wheels bus dragster, numerous Hot Wheels bugs, assorted vintage toy bugs of different brands, (mostly dime-store toys from the 70s), probably many others
The ones in storage are all in my storage unit I share with another kit-car enthusiast in Portland at this time, but may be brought back to Eugene someday. No pics available at this time. _________________ HBB-RW-Mongo63

Time to bring this one back up from the almost dead. This is one of the re-reissue Deal's Wheels VW Vans from 1971. I opted to leave off the surfboards and went a little freestyle on the detailing.

Newest toy score today. Came from the estate of the original owner and kept on display until I purchased it today.
Unfortunately no box...but that's ok. How many Bandai 1500 convertible type 3's are out there.
See my gallery for a few more pictures. |

I've never seen that. Maybe show us a better pic of the front. It looks more like a European Ford Transit or British Commer. _________________ fig

Those ones are over priced. They're both tootsie toys and there were thousands of those made. They can be picked up on eBay for as low as a buck ($1). _________________ Yeah I like Herbie AND New Beetles. Got a problem with it? Tough.

Picked this kids ride in bug up today, the body is metal and the bumpers are plastic.
It has an electric motor PO said it was 6 volt???
It is missing the steering wheel, windshield and taillights.
I cannot find a manufacturer or date anywhere on it.
Put it on the hood of the notch for size reference, any info would be appreciated.

The is a lot of posts about them . The red you see underneath is the original color. There may be a few "names" on it but I know that they were sold at Toys R Us in the 90s. There was a true pedal and the 6V version like you have. |

TOY NOMURA OVAL WINDOW VOLKSWAGEN
By Hacksaw BoB Gilmore
A large percentage of the Volkswagen model cars that were produced in the 1950's were made in Germany due to the fact, of course, the VW is of German origin. Well, this month’s feature has the spotlight on a tin plate Oval Window VW produced in Japan. Over the years I have seen the rising prices of Japanese tin cars of the 50' and 60's. This tin VW is not only desirable to VW model collectors but also to collectors of Japanese tin cars in general. The age, size and basic quality are the main items that allow it to fetch a good price depending on the condition.
Anyway, getting back to the spot light, our feature Oval Window Volkswagen model was manufactured by the Japanese toy company "TOY NOMURA" or "T.N" (company insignia). The body of this VW car is made of tin plate and has a very nice VW silhouette with little distortion. Because of the basic VW shape itself, the tin bodies of the model cars are usually distorted and stretch marks are common in the front and rear quarter panel areas as can be seen on this tin car. The tin body had cut out windows with only a clear plastic insert used for the front windshield. The tin interior had a colorful lithograph design that was not of a Volkswagen. The red and orange tuck & roll interior and space age dashboard look more like what you would find in a carnival ride vehicle.
The rear oval window, engine louvers and bumblebee wing rear deck lid dates this model to the middle 50's. Speaking of bumblebee wing rear deck lid, one added feature of this T.N Oval VW were three colored plastic bars (red, yellow, blue) that fit into the rear deck lid. There was also a flint sparkler that was installed on the friction motor. When the car was running, sparks could be seen through the plastic bars on the rear deck lid. The body was nicely finished off with metal side trim pieces, headlights and a windshield trim piece.
The tin chassis was usually painted black and had a high revving friction motor with rubber tires and nice VW hubcaps. The front wheels did not steer and only provided the basic straightforward and reverse direction. The chassis, which had tin front and rear bumpers with guards, was secured to the body with eight metal tabs.
The T.N Oval VW was 1/20 scale, 6.5 inches or about 195mm in length. The most common colors of the body were red, medium blue and grey. Seldom found color were black, light blue, medium green, light green and yellow. Identification can be easily made by the manufactures "T.N" insignia on the tin lithograph interior when looking through the oval window of the body. Just to note, in some cases, the T.N insignia is blacked out or not there at all. Not sure why this is but not too many have been noticed. The T.N Oval VW came in a colorful box that had artwork of two VWs driving past each other along the autobahn. There were sparks flying out the back on one of the VWs. The box was labeled “Friction Powered Volkswagen With Sparking Action”. An old T.N Oval VW box was found that still had the original price tag on the box. The price was $1 but was reduced to 74 cents! I would have taken two dozen back then if I knew what they would be worth now!
Your black T.N Oval VW in its condition is worth about $100. _________________ Hacksaw BoB
