Try posting a WTB on Craigslist with pic of the wheel - I ended up with a decent set of CLKs for $230. Seller was a local tire store who had them sitting in storage. _________________ '87 Westy 2.1 WBX |

Yes, they are a direct fit. No spacers required. _________________ I forgot the salad, but I brought the salami!

Has anybody tried these on the Vanagon? I think I want to switch out my wheels and I always thought these would be interesting, but haven't seen them bolted up yet. A set of 18s are form sale on CL locally and I would like to jump on it if they would work.
Do they even fit? I already have a set of 25mm spacers in the rear and I think that would work....
Any insight? _________________ adam

Sorry for the delayed reply here.
I have never seen a set on a Vanagon, but in order to make them work, you would need to have the centerbores machined to 66.56mm, need small ball seat lug hardware, longer rear wheel studs and spacers.
Your 25mm spacers would work fine for the rear, but you would want more like 18-20mm spacers for the front.
No matter what you do, the center caps won't fit, so you are on your own there. _________________ Christopher

I have not seen anyone do this yet, but I think it would be very cool. If I'm not mistaken, the centerbores are still 57.1mm, so you would definitely have to have them machined. In addition, you would need spacers, lugs and longer rear wheel studs. Let me know if you decide to move forward with this. I think it would look great and would love to help. _________________ Christopher

Just put new treads and wheels on the Doka this week! The photos I found online and on the Van Cafe site don't do justice, so I thought I'd share a few before and after shots. Rims are 15", tires are 205/70 r15 Nokian WRC, bought as a package. Peter and Christian were both great to deal with.
The fresh rubber and the larger diameter totally transformed the character of the truck. A much smoother ride and the stock 2.1 engine seems to like turning the bigger wheels.

Are those the van cafe carrot wheels? I really like the Rhein wheels, but they are out of stock. How do you like the new carrots? I thought them very handsome on your doka, I'd prefer a dark color wheel on my wolfram gray westy, but those look great on your ride, pretty hokey picture on the VC site... _________________ 1987 Wolfram Gray 2WD Vanagon GL Westy (1.8T Powered!)

Yes, the pic on the VC site is kinda meh, but then I saw photos of them mounted on several California Westys restorations.
My lousy camera phone doesn't capture the up close detail very well. They are machined on the front side, with metallic paint or powdercoat in the low areas between the spokes...pretty spiffy. The only downside I can see so far is a potential for rash against high curbs. _________________ -------------------------------

As long as you know how to park that shouldn't be a problem. I just feel for the edge of the asphalt to gutter transition, which is bumpy... _________________ 1987 Wolfram Gray 2WD Vanagon GL Westy (1.8T Powered!)

I had an 86 with those 16" ronal 28 about 8 years back.
Too bad those have been NLA for so long now, I think they look great on the van.

I'm looking for a spare set. Just bought the RMW bumpers and plan to add a half swing tire carrier. It is a shame Ronal USA went belly up, they had a killer product. _________________ '85 Wolfsburg Edition Westfalia Weekender, Zetec #36, w/ Peloquin TBD
