I actually saw another picture of a vanagon with those same wheels, it was a syncro. It looked like an ad so maybe those wheels could be oem for the syncros at some point?
Does anyone know if you can get those black centercaps shown on this van anywhere? I have corrado steelies an they look like thesame type of centercaps. Or maybe a 5 bolt corrado steelie cap will work? |

I'm in the process of purchasing a 1980 Westfalia and I have a set of 17" Enkeis off of my 90 GLI. I was wondering if they would work. they are a four lug pattern.

Since Mercedes offered that style of wheel in a multitude of different sizes and offsets, we would have to know the size and offset of those wheels in order to know if they are a good fit and what it would take parts wise to get them installed. And just for the record, those wheels are not 5x100 as stated in the ad. They are 5x112 for sure. _________________ "Sometimes you have to build a box to think outside of." - Bruce (not Springsteen)

Thanks a lot! I held off on them... however, these just turned up. Thoughts? I would probably swap the tires out, but would the wheels work? |

They remind me of 7.00 x 15, 7.50 x 15, 7.00 x 16, or 7.50 x 16 tires. I see guys in some off road forums saying they buy them from Agricultural Supply stores for like $80 a piece. Hope this helps get you in the right direction. _________________ KDI CUSTOMS AUTOMOTIVE UPHOLSTERY

That looks like a late model South African van.usually 7x16.
High speed (freeway) tires are not required on unimproved roads..skinny tires with deep lugs have better traction thru more harsh environments..better gas milage too, another important consideration...when your far from home |

I've got some mid 90's mercedes C220 rims here... they are 15x6.5, ET37
I'm wrapping them in 215/75R15 BFG A/T's.
Reason for this is I plan to install smallcar big brakes for the front and from discussions with SC, looks like these will fit, as the smallest inside dia. of the rim is about 13 1/8" and they reportedly need 13".
I couldn't bolt on the C220 rim, since the wheel bolt holes are 12mm (i assume that also means small ball seat) so just held it there against the hub to check rubbing.
The Rim (with 205 tire to be discarded) sits flush with hub and doesn't rub - but I'll be grabbing some 3/8" spacers from CIP1 just in case there is an issue with the clearance with new big brakes.. (I’ll do the brake install at some yet to be determined location in NE Washington, so don’t have luxury of mail-ordering spacers on the spot if I need them. – Anyone have a driveway I can use between Blaine and Burlington??)
Now I'm trying to get lug bolts to run the tire/rim until I install the SC brakes (the SC brakes have M14x1.5 60mm studs). Unfortunately the SC-supplied Lug nuts are (so they tell me, haven’t received it yet) tapered seat.
So I need to buy 14x1.5, small ball seat (12mm radius seat?) lug bolts for use until I install big brakes (shank length to be determined..)
Then I need to buy 14x1.5 small ball seat lug nuts for after I install the SC brakes.
Is this all correct??
I certainly have to drill out the lug holes to 14mm, which I can do myself, but would it be worth looking into getting the rim seats bored to tapered seat?? 1st problem, I don’t know who/where to get to do that.. and while I’m comfortable drilling out the holes from 12-14mm, I’m outside my level of comfort drilling the seat to taper (ie. potentially removing material in the axial direction of the bolts) _________________ 1990 westy auto |

FYI... I tried on some nice Mercedes S-class ronal W220 rims on the front. They were mentioned at the bottom of the first page of this thread.
16x7.5 ET46 Man they looked great.
Rims touched at upper ball joint so couldn't bolt them on, needed spacers of course.
The lug shank length required is considerably more, my ~20mm stock steel rim lug bolts seated perfectly but were ~6mm shy of even coming out the other side of the rim. So you would need lug bolt shank length of 20mm+6mm+spacer(15 min.)+thread engagement length (14?) = 55mm
I measured gap between hub and rim at about 1/4-3/8", so 3/8" spacer would only remove contact, thus I figured 15mm spacer would be safer, 20mm better. (correct me if i'm wrong) _________________ 1990 westy auto |

Does a small ball seat R12…M14x1.5 lug bolt even exist? Tire shops around Vancouver are of no help.
I looked into changing the wheel lug seat at pantherwheels.ca in surrey. Holy crap. $20 per hole to instllo either the tapered or large ball seat inserts. They didn't care if I drilled the 12 mm to 14mm or they do it, same price.
So that's $100 a wheel! Yikes. Not going that route. _________________ 1990 westy auto |
