The fuel pump push rod on my '73 Thing was installed upside down by the PO. No biggie, but it was bent as a result.

I'm not with my car now, but can anyone tell me the what the proper length should be? I see two available on CP1.com

TIA

Depends on your fuel pump:
If the plunger lever on the bottom side of the pump base is flush, you need the shorter one (100mm/4"). If the plunger lever is recessed into the base of the fuel pump, you need the longer one (111mm/4.25").

Two types of fuel pumps are used on VW air cooled engines. A taller pump was used with Generator equipped engines (earlier VW's), and therefore it used a slightly longer pump rod, and the Alternator equipped VW engines used a smaller "angled" pump that uses a shorter rod.

So, do you have a generator or an alternator? A previous owner (or yourself) may have switched the Generator to an alternator (popular swap on earlier VW's), and therefore swapped the fuel pump out too.

My engine is block stock '73 Thing. 54,000 original miles. So, Generator. Happily, the electrical system is robust (even the cigarette lighter works) so I won't change it.

I was going to order from www.cp1.com, but when I went to check out, I got a DNS "Page Not Found" message.

Guess I'll try elsewhere.
