The tracks were just as described. I rember thinking there were about 1000 bolts per side. I had a long chunk of conveyer belting that I was going to use. Nice thick 2or 3 ply stuff. Guess the cowboys had fun punching holes in it.

I'm lucky, when I bought mine the tracks were in pretty good condition. But I don't look forward to the day that I have to replace all the belting. Conveyor belting would probably work, but there is specialized belting that is designed for the water, temperature and sunlight exposure these snowcats have to deal with so I suspect that conveyor belting would not last as long as specialized belting. Still, it would probably be a lot more economical to use conveyor belting!!!

Conveyor beting is a lot stronger than you think. most crush plants use several hundered of belting per unit to move 500+ ton of rock, gravel, sand, ect per hour. One of the conveyors we had was a 225' so it had a little over 550 foot of belting moving at one time That was a bunch of material on the belt.

bajamike560 -
I used to when I had time. I used to have full access to cnc lathes and 4th axis mills, but now I barely have time to work on my track assembly as I'm to busy running the machines for other jobs.

Sorry to dig this up but I was at that show.... Hey Glenn, do you remember what that guy was selling that for?

It's owned by Joe Gunyun and was not for sale.

Thanks for the reply.
I guess you have a "good" problem then, having to much work and all. Very Happy

Well I recently discovered these and for some crazy reason, I had to have one. I searched high and low, far and wide, for a whole month.... Wink and then this came up about 5 hours away. It's now in my driveway.
Needs some tlc but otherwise I think it's a good start to some winter fun with a VW powered unit.
Feel free to chime in on this as I have never seen one in the flesh until I picked this up. It runs and moves but needs some adjusting here and there.

I recently came across the following air-cooled VW based tracked vehicle in need of restoration, for sale on British Ebay in late-June 2018, which I suspect might be a Snow Trac. It sold for £4,100.

I’d like to see how the belt drive track control works, that could probably adapt to other air cooled horizontal shaft engines... such as for garden tractors.
