From what I have seen, the frames never changed. The only difference between coupe and convertible rear seats are the dimensions. I have seen seats from a 1962 coupe that were flat in the seat back and the seat bottom, while in later years the seat back and seat bottom had a slight contour to allow for someone sitting in the seat. In each picture, the top cushion is from a coupe.

In response to Lind, I would put $50 on a set of coupe rear seats provides the hinges are in excellent condition, the frames are not rotted, and the vinyl is factory perfect and original.

Here's a neat trick: raise the price, but put REDUCED in the ad

I saw that earlier today. Wasn't it originally $600? Man, I need to try these tactics.

Oh yeah, Mr $200 "HTF" rear seat told me he won't tell me where his market is. I think he's full of shit that he sold a back seat for $200; otherwise, he found a really naive person.

http://www.thesamba.com/vw/classifieds/detail.php?id=378863

If he's getting $100 for these, I have about about $1,500 worth in my stash.

Sorry if this one is in here already, but if I'm reading this correctly they want $100.00 each for door handles when KGP&R has them for $36.30. Shocked

Maybe he meant $3.00.... and he wants $10 to ship something that would normally cost $4.05 priority.

I'm new to the ghia game so its hard for me to determine what is a high price and what is a fair price. I was looking for a passenger door for my 70 coupe (one in better shape than mine) but found in the classifieds two doors for a godly amount of money that are 3 times worse than mine and the ad says "great shape". My door has zero dents, all the inards, window, crank and everything working and closes and opends with ease. Only thing wrong is two rust holes on the bottom of the door the size of a dime. I'd call that FAR from great shape.

I guess I'm wondering if I should just part out my ghia or continue to bring it back to life? If people are really getting the price they are asking for I'd make a killin parting the car out. How do I know if a price for something is the going rate or if the seller is just high on crack??

If you have questions about decent prices, either post something here, or pm people such as myself, ghiaddict, skrapmetal, and others.

One problem I've noticed over the years is that if a part is associated with a Karmann Ghia, the price goes up 15%-25%, even if it is a dirt common Type 1 part.

I have been restoring my '69 Ghia for a little while now. I go out and find a cheap part that is better than the one on the car and turn around and sell it. I have been fortunate to find a parts car and make 3x the amount that I purchased the car for. You are all so right..when it comes to saying Ghia the cost automatically goes up. Don't get me wrong, I love my car, but there are still a lot of them out there and some yet to be found. If anyone can drop the price on one thing, get me a cheap set of bumpers with overriders.

back in 1963 i was doing some moonlight electrical work in the bill spreen vw dealership in atlanta and one of the parts guys told me that the clutch disc for my 57 beetle costs $15. if i had asked for one for a porsche it would have been $52. .... same disc.... same part number. i guess the status of driving a ghia is just going to cost a little (or a lot) more.

oh, yeah... a new beetle without radio was $1647.10 that year.
