We should remove this one from consideration:
Not pictured is the $50 bill tucked inside the pouch.

I am posting this with all respect to the seller. Very cool desirable part, being it's age, function and originality. I do have to say WOW, that is tip top dollar for a piece of cast aluminum, which can be found in the form of a spot on replica casing, size and all. Honestly 300-500 less you may get a nibble but that is a very special number. In 6-10 years maybe, but now even with a complete nos kit WOW.

Well everyone has their own idea of the "correct" price for these Judson Scoops. Kris Van den Eynde has a good used one on my website for $1000 and Pascal Guery can supply you with a superb approved repro for $550.

I'd have Pascal's. Smile

Absolutely, the forum is a buffet take what you want to, leave what you don't want. I have paid good money for what IMO is a proper part. This is just my opinion and no disrespect is intended. Too much for me though considering the part. That being said Pascal's repos are spot on, in material stud location and casting quality.

Once 7 months go by and you still have your part...perhaps, just perhaps a price reduction is in order. Seriously, The three most overpriced letters in the VW alphabet are N.O.S. I think it actually blinds guys reality more than silicone at a strip club.

Yes that is true, but most not all VW restorers are traditionally frugal. These autos are not "cheap" to restore anymore. It is a fact that the community as hard as it is to swallow has to adapt to. The days of 3 columns of Vw in the local paper all with the year of 60 and below are long gone. Parts are hoarded or scarce for some makes (Ghia) and prices are relative to the supply and demand. We all have seen the trends in our years in the hobby, if we choose to accept it, scoff at it, or denounce it, it is a reality.

That's a lot of coin even for an original, and technically it's not even a scoop the way it is typically installed, which makes it pointless for posers. Only way I could see that price justified is if you have an historically significant car with a Judson as part of it's provenance.

Yes it's an attractive (?) vent to accommodate the Judson aircleaner that sits too high for the unmodified decklid. It can be turned around to act as a scoop and additional cooling for the supercharger. It's a common question: Which way should it go? Answer: Whichever way you like. Smile

Yep, the Judson "scoop" probably gulps in air (and dust, and bugs) if open forwardly; rearwardly, extracts some amount of hot engine bay air. Main purpose is to give the Supe' a little headroom.

I thought $169 for a fresh air intake was a bit much unless it was a pair, but I've found that the sheet metal in general is a bit pricey for Ghias. Not really sure why but if it's not OEM is it really that expensive to stamp out parts?

^^^
do a search for ads from Blackdog1999, he has some cool parts, a lot of ads and some of the worst pricing on the samba. Just wonder if people pay advertised price or if he negotiates 50% and more on each sale.

What am I missing?

The extra s in Magnesium means more $.
DUH!

Seriously though, it's original EMPI and that stuff is bananas, I don't know the actual value of this piece.
There are 2 other unsold ones on the site right now for $350 & $400.
$350:
http://www.thesamba.com/vw/classifieds/detail.php?id=1615293
There was one for $250 a few weeks ago but it looks like it sold quick.
It may even be the same one for $450 above. Wink
