Okay, so its been a while, but I thought the horn was under/near the front driver's side bumper, am I wrong or has someone helped themselves to my horn? _________________ "The edge, there is no honest way to explain it as the only people who really know where it is are the ones who have gone over." You are correct. The horn is located under the drivers side front fender. |

That's the second missing horn to surface here on Samba! The horn went missing on the "Pimp My Ride Thing" if I'm not mistaken...
We might have ourselves a horn rustler! Go get the marshall! |

Ummm, I just put in a Thing horn order with my North West parts supplier. Just out of curiosity, I'm going to ask for a drivers mirror also.

They just rattle loose.
I've put mine on tight and it was loose within a month.
Maybe some locktite or glue gun? |

I was thinking lock nuts with the nylon insert, they resist vibration pretty well. Or drill and wire tie them. |

Never had one vibrate loose on me. I'd try medium locktight. |

A rubber washer will work just fine, too. |

i used to have a bunch of mirrors and hubcaps and trim bits in the treasure chest of my single cab (things ide grab cheap at wrecking yards) and ide find cars that needed them in parking lots and dress em up as kinda a silent gift. made me feal good. one day i ran into a recipient and couldnt help compliment her on the nice matching chrome all around, to which she said..."huh, oh, yea"...i dont play the parts fairy anymore!...loseres are just that! |

My horn bolts were pretty well rusted on. Therefore, I recommend a dash of salt water and a little time. _________________ 1974 Thing -- under the knife

Talk about a thread going arye... The VW Thing horn bolts to a tab that is part of one of the front bumper mounts/ There is a "D" shaped ear with a hole in it that the horn flex mount bolts to . I have one of the best Thing horn collections in the world (unless I have already sold/traded and given them away. I must still have some around here but that would require a bit of a clean-up.. The VW Thing is one of the few cars around that the horn's only function is to appreciate folks loving your car. We use em to wave back.. I have the high low dual Thing horns on my offroad car. I beep it whenever I feel like it. But never toward another driver or stuff like that...
If you have the orignal flex mount then it will never wiggle loose. It os a funny little straight mounting bracket that has multiple strips of flexible metall that absorb the shock that could make the horn come loose. Real German cars don't need no stinking locktight.. tutonic engineering |
