EDIT: my car also had stale air heating as well. Fresh air heating came in December of 62. |

Hey Kevin, Do you have a picture of the early split hoodcrest? |

The hood crest was also known as the "wolfsburg crest" ended for the start of the 1963 year of production for beetles. All cars pre 1963 had one on the front hood above the hood handle.
|
Actually the crest continued into the 63 model year for several months and then was dropped.
Chris |
That new to me also, what is this based on? |
Some of the early 1963 model beetles did have the hood crest. It was dropped sometime in late November or early December. |
Yes, the early 63s had them, as was mentioned above. The '63 model year ran from Aug. '62 through July '63, and the chassis numbers were 4 846 836 to 5 677 118. The Wolfsburg crest was discontinued in Oct. of '62, at chassis No. 5 010 448, so bychecking your chassis number you can determine whether your car had one or not.
Other interesting changes for the '63 model year included:
4 874 267 - Positive crankcase ventilation. (Oil fumes vented to air cleaner.)
5 188 470 - Rear compartment heater vents fitted with regulating flaps.
5 199 980 - Fresh air heater system. Formerly stale air.
Sorry, I know this is the split forum |

I think Kevin was referring to the number of bricks in the castle and the tip of the Wollf's tail. There are subtle differences in the crest and it is believed that there were "early" versions and later ones. Do a search......the thread is around here somewhere. _________________ "What a fool believes he sees, no wise man has the power to reason away." Dobee, Dobee, Do |

Sorry Rareair, I disagree.
The one on the right is a repro, and the one on the left is a later version of the blue crest.
The early version had the tip of the tail pointing to the left. |

It's Swedish origin. There is also a matching horn button for each of those crests. _________________ 1947 Typ 11a
