Thom, if you get a chance could you measure a piece and tell me the width of the ISP trim? |
I get 13mm for the ISP trim, 11mm for the OG trim, and 10.75 for the KGPR trim |
This what you wanted? Page one..... _________________ To Many cars, Just ask my wife!! |

If only KGPR would produce theirs in stainless steel... or ISP address the detail issues. I've had the KGPR ones before and their are just too fragile due to the soft aluminium. |

Yeah I know about fragile. My kid bumped his bike into the door trim upper piece and mangled it. Can't buy just the one piece from KGPR only the set.
If any one has a door piece that they want to sell pm me please. _________________ www.lyonsperformance.com |

Just replacing the one piece is pretty difficult. The reason KGPR only sells sets is because all 12 pieces of the trim are unique, they all have different ends to fit their exact place on the car (left or right side, top or bottom). |

Make your own. Make a rectangular headed screw that fits into the trim and bolt it on with a nut on the backside of the panel. This will work on almost all the trim except for in the rear quarters a couple have no access from the back. |

Use the metal clips from the dash of a early bug or VHB tape. _________________ It's not about the window, it's about the people.

Yes, I made mine of stainless to go with my stainless trim and the areas that have no access I used the worthless plastic clips...but as long as the ends are bolted it won't fall off. |

Those plastic clips have worked fine for me. Well, on the chrome side at least, they fit nice and tight. I don't push the trim straight onto the clip, I hang it over the top, then roll it onto the bottom. Snaps in nice and tight, doesn't deform the trim that way, yada yada...
The problem I HAVE had, is on the body side. Sometimes the holes in the body are too large to hold the clip in securely, even making sure the pin is sticking out first, then inserting the clip, then pushing in the pin to "spread the legs" (like a wall anchor). No dice.

I got some stainless trim for my last Squareback from (I think) ISP-- it was super nice & looked fantastic on the car. When I sold it, I kept the trim for the next one even! |

Does anyone here have a set of the stainless ones from ISP West on their Ghia?
My coupe currently has a set of KGP&R trims but they have to go as one is now damaged , having said that the quality of them IMHO left much to be desired .
I'm not interested anymore in an exact copy of the OG trims, just want a set of the correct size and of a construction a bit more durable than aluminium foil.
The ISP West ones look good, but before I commit myself to buying a set would very much like to hear from anyone who has a set on their car....?
Thanks in advance.

I was speaking to Darren, the owner of this lovely '59 "Facelift" 'vert Ghia today and he was telling me he used ISPWest Stainless Side Trim. In the interest of feedback I though I'd post a few pictures.
Although the ISPWest Stainless Trim differs slightly in profile from the original, it has a quality appearance and is a lot more sturdy than other cheaper repro trim.
I think it does look very slightly narrower (top to bottom when fitted) than the original so it depends on the sort of resto you're carrying out...looking for 100 point concours...original might be the way to go. On the other hand Darren says is is easy to fit without the fear of denting the trim when pressing home the clips.
Something to think about. _________________ John.

I used the KGPR side trim because it more closely resembles the OG side trim in size and shape. I have seen the ISP in person on a car thought it looked a little thick (IMO).
Here's a solution that I got from a fellow low-light ghia owner, I dont remember his name now, but it works excellent!
At NAPA auto parts, they carry bagged miscellaneous parts and one of them. This is part no. 665-1141, moulding clips. (Pretty interesting its called moulding clips and it has the number 141 ) The thread is US #10-24.
8 come in a bag so you will need exactly 7 bags. Cost is $4.99 each. I had to go to 4 stores get those many bags. I felt the costs was well worth the finish these clips gave me...
You have to cut/remove the curved pin and make sure it is parallel on both sides (I used metal shears and long nose pliers)
Original on the left, cut and trimmed and on the right, ready for install.
Napa also carries a green/gray colored trim set but the head is too big to fit in the side trim. I bought one bag of it and I had to grind down the head to make them work. Get the more common gold ones with the smaller head..less work!
Slide in the clip.
All clips in the side trim.
I used #10 lock washers and #10-24 nuts from Home Depot. You will need 56 of each.
How they look from behind installed in the door portion.
The side trim on the left with the plastic clips. No matter how well you do it, it wont be flush. On the right, with the Napa clips -- Flush and a really nice finished look up against the painted metal.
You do have to be careful, the KGPR are made of aluminum. Obviously this is not an original style installation but the argument can be made the plastic ones are not original either. Again, I cant stress enough how impressed I was how when I first saw this installation on a car...so tight and flush and perfect. The metal clips work so much better. Hope this helps others...
Also, you can Google "moulding clips 10 24" if NAPA is not easily accessible for you.
Also, here is an ebay link (but this only has 50 and you need 56):
