This shot is under the bus, looking forward. The rear shift rod is in the center, and the two cables on either side are the e-brake cables. The greasy tubes are the front axle beam.

OK, first of all, I didn't make this cut. It was on the bus when I found it. That said, I think it's a pretty good solution for replacing the rear bushing without pulling the tranny. The cut allows the front of the rear rod to drop down far enough to pull the rod forward and expose the rear badminton bushing. The metal that is cut away is not structural...it appears that its major purpose is to give the rear edge of the splash pan something to bolt onto. Anybody with a welder could, if they felt inclined, tack a piece of patch metal back over the cut before bolting the splash pan back in. I'm going to leave it until I figure out if the replacement bushings are going to stay where they belong.

Hmmmm....not bad. If it was a house joist the inspector would fail it but with the pan bolted on it's probably just as strong.

Hi Ghianut,
Is that left side E-brake cable rubbing on the sheet metal? If so you might want to fix that!
