I have a question;
Why would anybody want to do that?
Just wondering how other minds think.
I need mine to keep water out of my ride, but that's me.
LOL

Be sure to tack the shaved gutters as you go, or your lid could pop off. The roof is attached via the crimp made with the gutters. It is a very cool look to smooth it all out, but you need to think before you leap, or you'll have a real mess. Also make sure your doors close properly and don't stick out past the natural curve of the roof line. Otherwise it will look real stupid. For information on how to, look around for articles and how to's in street rod mags (Rod and Custom, Street Rodder etc.). They're doing this stuff all the time.

Kebdawg,
I have visions of the whole roof peeling back like a can of sardines.

My brother and I have shaved the gutters off on his '63 looks so much cleaner. solid as a rock. Just do it in sections. Gonna do myne when we are ready, and we have a better idea of how to do it. since his was the "test" car. Ive seen a blue one where i live with gutters shaved, thats why we did the '63. Might be a problem selling it i hear, but only if your selling it to a purist or something. Both our cars are going to be custom, so gutters or not, it wont be the deciding factor. Why would anyone do that? Cause not everyone wants to have the same looking Bugs. Gotta be different somehow

VW's are cars. Cars are not meant to leak oil. So if your VW leaks I think you should fix it. Be like me and have no leaks
