I was curious about the other forums, and here's what I found on the Ghia site:
http://www.thesamba.com/vw/forum/viewtopic.php?t=211261
I hate to even ask, but what about sexy women and Things? Hopefully we won't have photos like the one toward the end of the Ghia post! |

There does seem to be a lack of pictures of scantily clad women sitting on/in/around a Thing.
Doesn't quite come close:
I think I see a calling for all VW treffens in the coming year - RESOLVE THIS PROBLEM!
At every event this year, try and find sexy women and get a pic of them posing with your *ahem* VW Thing. Or, if you are yourself a woman, get out the sexy clothes (or lack thereof) and go pose with a Thing.
The issue could be all the Thing owners everywhere who say something like "Hey! I want to snap your photo with you sitting on my Thing! Hey, come back!" It's not too difficult, just substitute the word "car" for better results.
I, myself will strive for this in the coming year, and I know I can succeed. Once I get my *ahem* car roadworthy, I know of several people whose aid I can enlist. This summer, I'll be driving out to the Nevada desert (where Burning Man usually happens, but isn't) and will get at least one good pic out of it. I had several hot chics sitting in my car for the event last year, just didn't get the pics.
But I can't be the only one. You'd start to think that babes only go for tiger-striped Things, and I'd be forever cleaning leg/butt/boob prints off of my hood. (OK, maybe that's not so bad, but I digress).
Together, we can do this! Let '07 be the year of the Thing Babe!
Someone call HotVW... |

Of the Thing/ACVW owners I have met, the married ones *DO NOT* want pix of their spouses in the car - believe me, the clown pic would be looking like a near 10 in that regard.
I met a few single owners that had S.O.'s worth taking pix of, but they are few and far between.
Most ACVW owners are really not the most savvy chick magnets, and a Thing doesn't do much better. When my Thing is parked, the people that come over to see it are rarely female, and you would not want pix of them for any reason.
How many posing pretties do you see in the VW magazine? (there was one in the 40th anniversary edition)
Now look at Lowrider, Custom Rods, and Iron Horse.
Wonder if this is some side-effect of owning a German car?
ok. fire away. |

I was just looking for a pic I took of my wife on the back of our Thing in a rather transparent top. It seems to have disappeared! Hmmmm, I think someone has been in my laptop. I'll find it guys. |

I doubt I could get my wife to pose for a photo with my Thing, especially knowing that I might post it in the forum (nothing disrespectful of course). I might have better luck taking the Thing to a high school or college car wash. Might get some nice photos that way... |

Even if they are dogs,
Any girl/wife is going to look amazing in comparison to the
opposite of sexy block-o-car they are pressing themselves against.
Read Invisible Monsters there is a part in it about B supermodels
allways posing in junk yards. |

no no no. I speak only of the people i've actually met.
very, very nice people, but not 'auto-show' quality by any measurement.

Captain Spalding (where the hell is he, BTW?) had a pretty cute picture of an Asian woman filling up a Thing.
ON EDIT: Here she is!
On another note, perhaps we Thing owners are classier, and prefer to leave more to the imagination? Or maybe it's glandular. Who knows. _________________ 1974 Thing -- under the knife

Here I am. I've been working some rather extreme hours since Sept. (averaging 70 hrs/week ) - so lots of lurking and not so much posting. I know, damned unsociable of me. But I chime in when I think I can add something worthwhile. . .

(I like that second one Markie, but it's a photoshop job - they missed the reflection in the windshield.) |

Oh.....my eyes weren't looking at the windshield....just the headlights
Makes me wonder if the skateboard one isn't a photoshop job as well since the car is the same (note the graphics on both). Either way, quality all the way...

Real or fake, the pics (and the headlights) are captivating.
Once my own ride is looking a little better, I'll see if I can't get some local Chamoritas to lend some West Pacific flavor to my Mexican-built lady. _________________ DAVE

I dunno guys, my experiences have led me to think that Things can be very strong chick magnets, but I think it depends on a lot of factors.
I've gotten quite a few nice comments from cute girls when I drive around in my Thing (girls at the local coffee shops, hardware store, the beach, stoplights, even my office parking lot). Of course, I'm happily married, so I usually just smile, say thanks, and tell them about the car.
The thing is (no pun intended) my '73 is a shiny, bright yellow, and in show condition. It's very different experience driving my friend's beat up, rusty, orange '73 with and military-green doors.
On another note, there used to be some Website that just had girls posing on aircooled VWs. I wonder what ever happened to that, and if they had any Things?? |

Maybe you're talking about Aircooled Passion.
http://www.aircooled-passion.com
In the first calendars, there were girls posing on old VWs.
Now they're using old pictures from the VW factories to make their calendars.
Regards
Pierre-J MACUA
PS: in one of the first calendars, I remember a picture with a girl posing on a military VW 181. |
