Is your wastegate adjustable?

spring pressure adjusted by a nut at the top. even with the most pressure, it produced almost no boost. the gate was used and i have no idea if it is even functioning. this should tell me quickly!

The diaphram inside of the WG could be torn, what brand is it? Have you done a boost leak test on the charge piping/IC (search the internet for how to do that).

all we are looking for is any sign of boost. if so, then the wastegate gets torn apart.

Have you did a boost leakdown yet? Are you running a BOV, if so is it working right/plumbed correctly? What turbo exactly are you using, brand too?

That's right, on a draw thru, the throttle plates are on the intake side of the turbo. I've never run that style but doesn't the turbo need carbon seals. You should still do a boost leak test to verify there are no leaks. I stay away from all the "overseas" parts when it comes to turbo's, WG, and BOV's, that's why I'm not boosted yet.

this has a carbon seal and the turbo is from a friend that ran the it on his car.
last year when i tried to run it, i had lots of intake leaks and you could hear it and it ran like crap/wouldn't idle below 2200rpm. now it runs smoothly, idles at 800rpm and the only thing it isn't doing is build boost.
it's all part of the learning curve.

Well, using used parts effect things... seems I didn't have all the needed parts and didn't know they were missing. The WG needs a ring between the WG and the flange. Not there...

I'm hoping tomorrow (Friday) will bring the end of my saga with the up pipe. If so, maybe I will actually see some boost Exclamation If we still have boost issues, I will go after a new wastegate next.

Alright... I pick up the up pipe tonight. Then, I need to turn the flange for the wastegate a bit for a better fit of the WG exhaust pipe. Then I finally get to attempt boost again!!!!

Can't find a cheap commuter car to replace the squareback, so I have decided to press the notch back into daily driver status. So, the carbs will go back on the car again.
This will give me a solid car that I can transport my kids in!

Sounds like you need to put the turbo motor into the late Notch you have. Then it won't need to come back out, as that car isn't going anywhere soon. Then you could gut the inside of it (to lighten it), and basically turn it into the drag car you've always wanted, while still having a reliable car around for daily driving. Shocked

Oh wait, that would make sense. We can't have that. Wink
