Hi Ed,

I used this radiator from summit http://www.summitracing.com/parts/SUM-380325

It fit well and the hoses lined up nicely. Found some off the shelf hoses at autozone with the exact size ends that fit like a glove.

I bent up a coat hanger and took it to AZ to find the hoses. I was stoked that I found "exactly" what I needed. The wife coulldn't understand why I was so excited about rubber hoses....

thanks for advice, I looked it up and it looks nice like the rest of your project.

For your engine mount did you just use the mounting points below the belts alone or did you catch any points on the side of the block??
I fill fortunate to be able to work off some of the things you did, even with that said many things will fall in place in a differant pattern. My boy is really trying to get me to spend the extra for the rear coil overs so we wont have to do a redo. I will keep my eyes open for some used good ones, I don't have the money to put out like he did for that build. keep up the good work ED

This is what we are starting with and not much will be used other then the roll cage, frame and body, engine, adaptor, and wiring, not sure even about the pressure plate it seems to chatter and lot and is 1700 lbs which is the low end for the one they sell at kennedy, do you know what pressure plate you used and pressure.

I even have a new wide eye one piece front end and will take all the remaining good parts and put on another bug I have to resell.

Hey Ed,

Yes for now I only have the 2 mounting points in the rear. Once I get it running I'll see how it performs under a load and add others if needed. The clutch and presure plate I used are Kennedys 2 stage pressure plate and 6 puck clutch.

Been busy with the holidays and some house projects. In the mean time have been stock piling parts for the next flurry of work to begin soon.

Hope that helps.

I have many projects pending and my boy can't wait to start cutting into this buggy's front end and getting our beam mounted. I did get a fuel filter from a 2005 mustang 14micron for this engine, since I do not see one and want to put in a prefilter from the tank as well, got a updated timing chain tension to put in as time permits, the engine make a racket when I got if from a defective or cloged tensioner, I put in 8 oz of seafoam and 10 min later it was purring but want to change the tensioner any how to the new version.. Will be a slow process unless I sell one of my vehicles first. We built my boys in 6 months of fridays nights on occasion and long Saturadays. and 6 months before that we didn't know what a swing axle was compared to a "IRS" type. We are still learning did have some professional advice on the shock and beam set up and the the care performed perfect on its first trip. One thing I would mention is that our shocks pressure and spring rate and valving was set up for a baja type bug and with the shock angle and not to set it to sit in a certain possition relative to the ground.

It is all complete and has been out a few of times, performs excellant, the one weak link the spindles gave out on the last day. and have since been upgrades, and some fine tuning of the weber carb. and best of all everthing worked with wiring on the first try. I laid out the wiring and my boy with his elevator work and wiring experience wired it all up in the evenings. the next thing to do is this week end to install the driver codriver radio system and install the Cat D3 air cleaner. this week getting my extra bug ready for sale so I can get started on the ecotec bug. He is trying to talk me into the same type of build with the coil over and all. But do have lots of good parts for torsion bar suspension with bilstein reservoir shocks etc. to sell of to help pay for the build.

Got a few hours in the garage last weekend to fill in some of the holes on the front of this thing, add a couple supports and fab up a battery box.

as long as you are not using epoxy paint then a ospho treatment will work.

I bought my Ecotec today. The guy I bought it from insist I put the mounts on the side of the block. He says that he had problems cause of torque mounting where you did on the rear lower.
Very nice build. I'm glad you decided to share this one. I see alot of good info here.

Any more progress yet? How big of a hole did you have to cut in the firewall/package tray area to get the motor to clear?

I finally got around to mounting my offroad lights. Picked up a pair of Lightforce 240 Blitz. They seem like a real nice light for the price online. Took forever for me to decide on how to mount them. Went through 3 revisions until I thought it looked right. Nice thing about metal is if you don't like it, cut it off and weld it on different.

The first rev I thought having the lights up that high looked goofy and I didn't leave enough clearance for the hood.
Image may have been reduced in size. Click image to view fullscreen.

The second rev just didn't seem to flow right either and the lights now stuck out past the front bumper.

So I cut it all off and came up with this design. Enough room for the hood, a little light protection from the bumper, and just seemed to flow well.... At least I think so...

I tried a pair of Hella 500FF for the main head light. After mounting them I realized I could have fit the Hella 700FF in that hole. Swapped them out and new ones on the way Smile

Can't believe this thing has taken 4 years. At least I'm still moving forward. Slow and steady or what ever that saying is.....

Got my new Hella 700FF mounted. They fit so much better. Finally got the skid plates on. That was painful on the wallet. Price of scrap aluminum is through the roof.

Picked this fiberglass dash up from vwinovations. Ralph made me a nice thick one. This alone took half a day to get it to fit through the front window and wrap around the cage. Now I have a ton of realestate for gauges and switches Very Happy

Nice Buld! Thats a very nice setup with your lights. Cool

Question..

What all have you done to your front beam to accommodate that much ground clearance. What size front tires also?

Sweet lookin build... you have any spec's on where the center of gravity might be on this rig and overall vehicle weight? I'd be curious to know how much this "beast" weighs with all that cage and cross over, cross over, cross bracin!!!!

I just went through your build quickly, just picture browsing. Man you have a nice ride! Your pretty close to having it done. Man, you got to get on that.

So i was wondering, did you do all that cage with only that bender?
