I have a 62 bug that I want to convert to 12 volts. I have a wiper assembly out of a 74 regular. Has anybody ever taken the older wiper shafts and combined them with a newer assembly to make a 2 speed hybrid? The link on the motor is removable so I can reposition it so I can get it to park on the other side and I was thinking I could use ball bearings from a RC car for bushings.

On my 65 I used the whole assembly from a 68 or a 69 and just took a cut-off wheel to the bracket that didn't match up. I then moved the bracket from my 6 volt motor assembly to the 12 volt assembly and welded it in the right spot and wired up the fast speed only to my one speed 65 switch and I was in business.

Get a 67 type 1 wiper motor they are 12 volt and the same mounting as your 62 you will have two speeds and use the wiper switch also your knob will fit right on. I do wiper repair and restoration. The differance in the wiper frame years is from small window to big window cars. 58-64 same. 65-67 same. 68-69 same. The wipers parked to passenger side on small window cars and to the drivers side on big window cars. The motor was fliped on big window cars. As was the 2 pin wiper shaft . The motors will park to the side the wire spades are on. if you need any help let me know DL West

Is the center to center distance between the wiper shafts the same from a 58-64 and a 65 up?
