at least with a repro you could mod it without getting murdered in your sleep for doing so... plus the original is sooo ugly (not that i'm claiming this is better).

btw no idea whose car this is, it was the best pic of a vdm i could find to play with.

No......I don't buy repo.......I just wondered how much of the cost was in making the button. The OG buttons I have seen do not use N,S,E,W for directions but rather the European letters. It seems like a very fair price for button and wheel.

The ironic thing about this, with some of the things that have been going on at shows lately, I would rather fake the funk and keep the OG items at home in a safe place.

I love to bring the good stuff out......people can learn so much from OG items, but you are correct............you have to watch your car. Wink

Things have been taken from cars even while parked at hotels. At shows, groups of people walk around and try to distract the owner while one of the group steals what he can. It has been better the past couple of years but it still is an issue at some shows. Confused

Soon you will know all the differences between an original and a repro.

I have had night mares of my Nardi horn push disappearing. So I use the repro...... Besides, if I break it in use, it is cheap to fix.

BTW: Aside from issues with details, I find the repros to be much nicer to look at. The repros are not dull and crazed like the originals.

Do any of you find the newer repro ones to be just too pretty?

Wow, that sucks, maybe it's a Cali thing cause here in my state, we watch out for each other. That's one thing I've noticed, if you check the stolen VW's on the Samba, you see the vast majority of thefts are from either Cali or Europe.

Or... the dickheads will surround the owner and distract them while some other a-hole slaps a sticker on your car and takes a photo of it before they all take off. I saw it happen to Rich's chocolate brown split window at the Las Vegas Fremont St Show last year.

I didn't realize what was happening until I saw the "sticker and photo" crew laughing and looking real suspicious after they took the photo. They all took off rather quick. What a bunch of morons!

At least the rare VDM repro wheel is structurally solid...unlike the flimsy flat-4 banjo repro.

I didn't know the correct color name. I just described it. If those guys were his friends, he sure seemed pissed! Rolling Eyes

Change the colume.

It's a type 3 Ghia. The ignition is in the column, and the column is longer. No can do.

All you have to do is cut of the splined portion of the colum and swap it with an early Bug one.
Easy to do.

Hey guys, here's the comparison between an original VDM and the recent reproduction wheel. Yep, I was the sucker who paid the $1800 on ebay. When I bought the wheel I was congratulated by several Petri collectors...no one knew there was a reproduction, until this post. Fortunately for me, I have received my money back and now feel "safe" to show you my pictures. This is my original compared to the repro.

Did they ever make one with a Black horn button?

That was the first thing I thought was "wrong" when I saw the fakes.
