Those with experience in the art of POR-15, please advise me on my technique.

Ok, I clean all the flake and scale rust off, wire brush it down to pretty clean.
Next, I swipe the area with metal ready- I haven't used anything like thinner to wipe it down- I just swipe on the metal ready.
Then, I wait about 12-20 minutes and apply the POR-15.

That's where I am right now. I'm letting it dry over night, and then I'll patch over it.
I have a couple holes in the sides that I'll fill with bondo
The holes in the back of my wheel well will be covered with fiber glass sheets. Once the sheets are dry, I'll cover them with a water proof spray on coating.

Ok, am I missing anything? Can you add/suggest anything for better results?

Comments greatly appreciated. I'm not looking for a show vehicle- although I'd like it to look nice. I plan to use my Westy as the utility vehicle it is.
