Ok guys ive been reading and reading and freaking readin and yes I am a noob. I have a 1960 11window walkthrough and Im doing an irs conversion with 4.12 trans and 3.5 drop spindles up front... 1776 with 110 cam 044heads and single weber progressive and 1 1/2 sidewinder exhaust... what size tires should I be running? I dont want to risk rubbing up front but I would like to run same tires all the way around. would a 185/50/15 work for me or a 185/45/15 does that sound about right? or something more like 175/50/15 up front and 185/50/15 in back?
Im using stock 15 bus wheels |

Why do you want to be the same size all the way around. You can fit a bigger tire in the rear which will help keep the RPMs down.
Plus it fills up the rear wheel well with more tire. Some people think this looks better. I'm one of those people.
I have a 175/55/15 up front and 195/60/15 in the rear. I only run drop spindles and a straight axle kit in the rear. I never notice any rubbing up front. I like the way it rides.
Good Luck. |

Keeping the RPM down can be a bad thing. Need that RPM to turn the fan. In his case, that rear tire might be too tall. 195/50-ish is probably better. _________________ nothing |

Wow, the day has come! 4 wheels on the bus! Well 2 as of now. I am trying to fit the rears on today. When I got these wheels they came with a set of low mile 195/65/15's for the rear. Are these too fat to fit in the wheel well? Is there a trick to maneuvering them in?
Swing type 1 rear, long axles, type 3 brakes, offset wide 5 spring plates...

This is a general statement, but run the 4.12R&P, something smaller than a 2liter with a 3.88 R&P isn't going to pull hills well.
I've done 1,000+ mile trips with a 3.88 and a built 1600, it wasn't that fun. Same trans and a 2276, those trips were fun, ha, ha. |
It's a 65' 13 window. I'll haul stuff here and there, but mostly building it as a normal driver, empty for the most part.
Cool, so smaller builds are generally good for a 4.12 in this situation. What breaks down to a 2Liter? 1915cc-ish? |
1L ==1000cc 1.6L==1600cc and so on
My last bus was a stock 4:12 tranny with a mild 1776cc and it ran great fully loaded or empty
But i was also running 205/65/15 on 5.5" wide rims in the rear if you run a smaller tire combo it will change the ratio |
Nice! How the heck did you squeeze those fatties in the wheel well? |

I don't have a scissor jack, I'll pick one up at some point. Chances are I'll be doing this again this summer for adjustments. This is how much room I have in the garage on the driver side, photo taken from the kitchen.

I was just wanting to keep em the same so I could have the spare fit both front and rear... think im going to try 175/50/15 in front and 185/60/15 in rear and just get the spare 175/50/15 and call it good |

you don't have enough carb for a 110 and 11/2in exhaust. your engine and you will be much happier and same mileage with a set of kadrons. if you have big valve heads then get the bigger kadrons. loose the progressive, its robbing power. I'm running 215/65/14 tires on widened stock bug rims, 14x6 with 4in backspacing, 1955cc singleport stroker stock geared 4.12 prostreet trans. pulls hard past 5000rpms. heads are ported with bigger intake valves. I can cruise at 80 around 4200 rpms, 70 at 3500rpms. |

Man it's been a long time since I could contribute to this thread.
Front narrowed so the tubes were flush to my side plates. Flipped spindles and adjusters
Front tire: 155-60-15
Rear long axles with the rear torsion narrowed 3"
Rear tire: 195-65-15

Just got my 63' done and on the road. Aaron @ Widefive helped me get down with his flipped spindles, 3.5" narrowed beam, and his offset spring plates. 68' T1 swing axle with late T1 brake parts. Empi 9650 shocks up front. Front stock KYB gas-a-just shocks in the rear. 185-55-15 up front and 195-65-15 in the rear.

I found out that federal makes 155/65R14 FEDERAL FORMOZA FD2 75H which is an inch narrower than my 185/55 so that will take care of my tire rubbing issue, now just to do something about the box hitting. |

load index of 75 is a 800 pound load rating...
the stock size 185/14 C rated tires have a 1600 pound rating

its not a camper, at post a mountain bike and me, I don't get the family in there too often, even though that's only another250lbs at most. no reduction boxes or heaterboxes so 100 or so pounds were removed. |

Stiff sidewalls are the important thing, not load rating specifically. _________________ nothing |
