Call North Hollywood Speedo. They have them in both styles for their conversions.

As of June 10th he is not taking any new orders.

Does that leave just North Hollywood Speedometer?

Wow, that looks fantastic!
Can you make them for a 7000rpm 912/914 tacho?

Current options and pricing for reproduction early (110mm) tachometers are as follows:

North Hollywood Speedometer - Supply new one outright for $795, or convert your clock for $625. Couple of options, very nice looking, closely matches original.

ISP West - New repro $200. Couple of colour options, similar style to original but doesn’t have inner chrome ring.

Neither seem to be the correct colour for my 1962 - anyone know any others?

I recently installed a clock converted to tach by NHS in my ‘64. My car is still 6 volt, so I had to add a 6v to 12v doubler too. The tach looks great in the dash, however, its readout accuracy leaves a lot to be desired. The needle flutters quite a bit (even though I added the recommended inline diode to the signal wire), and it reads higher than actual at lower rpms and lower than actual at higher rpms. Maybe the Pertronix ignition is causing this issue?

Yes I would say it is because of the Petronix - see here:

Thanks, looks like I’ll be trying a resistor instead of the diode. Very Happy

I replaced the signal leads inline diode with an inline 10k resistor, and problem solved!

Tach reads correctly now, and moves smoothly up and down throughout the rpm range with no fluttering.

Thanks MellowYellow!

Hi there

Where can I get the 8000rpm sticker from?

I sent Hannulat an email ages ago about getting a 7000 rpm sticker made to convert a 912 tacho I have and they didn't reply.

The 8000rpm stickers will make life easier if I can use a 100mm VDO tacho in a clock like you show.

I reckon the range of a 7000 and 8000 tachometer is too big for a VW engine.

Karhok recently put this video on Facebook which refers to using an 80mm VDO tachometer and advised that these have switches to change the range to suit a 5000 or 6000 RPM decal and a potentiometer to calibrate it to suit the marks on the decal.

https://www.facebook.com/kari.hokkanen.35/videos/10211301421805378/

He also talks about using a weighted needle in another older Facebook post. You also need a new glass front without a hole if you are converting a clock to tach but not for a speedo.

I think there would be a market to sell a 5000 RPM decal, a needle, an optional glass front plus instructions on how to do the conversion. Is this something you can do Karhok?

I have been wanting to order one of the stickers that go to 8k RPM but am unsure of the part # to order the correct VDO gauge in the US for a Lowlight.
Anyone have helpful info ???
Thank you

I already have what I think is a ovalboy 5000rpm repro tach in my ghia now, but I'm hoping to fit-up a healthy 2180cc I've built in the next few months that should make power to 6500-6800rpm and I will be regularly driving it between 4000-6500rpm.
I've bought a 7000rpm geoffp sticker and have an early 912 tach for that build, but these sticker faces look sexier and more like the 5000rpm one I have now as I'd prefer to use the spare clock, speedo glass and needle I have.
I 100% agree that being able to buy the bits as a kit for a clock would make life easier.
