The pic of the speedo was taken when it was at 31k. Why would I lie about original paint? IT IS ORIGINAL PAINT!!!! _________________ '59 Euro convertible--'56 type 2 double door panel w/Chick Iverson logo-....2 wrongs don't make a right, but 3 lefts do! |

That car looks great to me, Australian builds are very interesting production cars, I love the country only colors and that interior combo is really hott!!!!
If I was Chris, I'd sell some of the PROJECTS first before letting this rare unrestored gem go!

Is it me, or is this a crazy price for a whole lot of work and MORE money for a pretty much used up Cab?

That is not a car it's a tetanus jigsaw puzzle. You fail to understand what's involved to make that even remotely viable. That pile of scrap metal wouldn't sell on the west coast for a dollar over 1000.00. Don't be one of those people thinking your sitting on a gold mine. If it was a Splitwindow, maybe its worth 5,000. But '55? Meh. _________________ DB

I'm happy to hear the west coast is flooded with pre 55 convertibles for under $1000. Please forward the ads and/or information to me. I would like to make some purchases

I dont want to start a war here but let me just comment on your car and what "you" consider a pre-55 vert. First, does it have the original pan?, original motor?, Original trans? Original front beam? How about seats?, interior? speedo? Jesus does it even have any original parts or is it just a shell, cut in half? You fail to understand the concept of "investment grade automobiles". That car has NOTHING original to it, all it could ever be is a kid-sled or a bad piece together, hell I bet you want to put it on an IRS pan too don't you? The value of that car is what you can make of it. Since nothing is original, even if you pieced it all together it wouldn't bring 1/3 of what a finished restored numbers matching 55 Vert would bring. Sorry man, don't want to be harsh, just realistic. Dump 30G's into that car and you have a $20,000 car MAYBE.. because the people who actually have 20K (and most of them aren't driving rust sleds lowered on fake earlies) frankly are looking for something a little less pieced together. A 55 Vert is NOT a Barndoor... no matter how much you click your heels and pray to the VW gods.
Here's some tough love....Based on some of your past cars in your photo section (yeah I had a look through) you seem to find rusty junk and proclaim it the next coming.. I mean you say you have a '52 Split, but all I see is a body with a rusty front beam that's been sitting in the same place since 2009. Kinda isn't the same as "having" a '52 split.. If I was to list all the split and oval bodies and pans I've owned it would take up it's own thread.
I applaud you for saving these cars by fishing them out of rivers, swamps, lakes, bogs or wherever they come from, but if your going to sell them here your going to have to KNOW the market, and yeah the market is the west coast where only the bravest souls would tackle that car and then only to make a decent driver if even that. I would assess the value of that car (having not seen every piece that comes with it) at approximately 1000.00 to 1500.00 tops. I can't show you comparables because there are no ads selling a 55 Vert that is even near as incomplete and horrible as that one.

I dont believe that you will talk any sense into the Samba crowd.
As far as rarity goes, there is not much rare with these VW's except a few.
And if its not a running driving car, then its just parts or a project, which back not too long ago meant it could be had for a song.

If I might make one more comment... from a marketing aspect... when selling any car, project or otherwise it's best to never include a photo like this.

Trust me, this car is as original as it gets. Even has the original tires. It really should be in a museum, or in my garage where it would be more appreciated than with it's current owner who recklessly enjoys it and risks ruining one of the most original ovals on the planet _________________ Even my nuts are plated.....

Maybe it's the cool black and white pictures that make it hard to tell the condition of anything. |

Well, the member just signed up here at TS, and he must have recently got the car and thinks he's going to rake in some huge profit because someone told him ovals are like hens teeth.
Especially ones with a real 1966 engine and a bunch of other non oval parts. _________________ 55 Oval |
