T.K. nailed it. The key is WD-40 - lots of it.
I found that sticking the WD straw in the gap and giving it a good squirt (such that it leaks out through the top) is essential. I sprayed the edge I was working on, plus the next one to be tackled, so the WD could go to work.
The diamond tool worked like a charm. Fed the chrome through the tool, then opened the channel enough to let the chrome drop in behind it. I found it useful to press down on the chrome with my thumb as I advanced the diamond tool forward.
Keep a few shop towels handy to clean up drips as you spray.
The hardest part is getting the damed stuff to untwist as you go. |

MaineVagabond: Where did you get the chrome trim? I can't find it on any of our vendor's sites. _________________ 1985 Westfalia 15 degree EA288 Boxeer |

Hey MaineVagabond, welcome and happy to see your post. We've a '91 Canadian Westy with pretty old crappy faded original chrome trim and would love to replace it - been reluctant to pull it out and go all California look....
Would love to hear of your source too. _________________ '91 Westfalia, Bordeaux Red Pearl 2.1L 2wd Auto
