the videos are great
and im glad he made them
did you read how i was saying you can raise/lower the front from stock atleast 2 notches without taking all that off
and once you have done it once it would take you maybe 30 Min to do both _________________ 74 Mexi Swamp Thing. 70 square volksrod (Swamp Rat)..65 C10

I did see that. This whole thread is going to be a big help when I get to lowering my car. _________________ 1978 Westfalia - pre-purchase walk around

Hey guys. I read on one of Cugir's videos (someone left a comment) that said you should buy new LOWERED oil shocks instead of using the stock ones. Do I need to invest in new shocks? Thanks |

It really depends on how low you want to go. More than 2 splines really requires shorter shocks (get oil lowered link pin shocks). If you're only dropping it 2 splines, you'll be fine with the stock shocks. _________________ Bob 65 Notch S with Sunroof

Thanks. I'm thinking of dropping until it's about 3 inches off the ground. Cugir, in his videos, said he bought those white ones for 15 dollars each, but I can't find them anywhere for that cheap. Do you happen to know a good location to purchase them? Thanks. |

When talking about the front end, is there a guide how many splines and what combinations give wich results?
I am working on my car, all 4 corners had different heights. The rear is nearly there right now, I want to set the front first before I go any further.
I want to raise one side of the car (left, drivers side) about 2cm. What combination of splines do I need to get this result? |

posted again....
just so there are no what's a minute questons. when dealing with very long distances a single degree can cover a few hundred miles or more. so, a degree is broken into 60 minutes and each minute has 60 seconds in it.
so there are 3600 seconds in one degree... rather hard to see on a degree finder. just ignore the miutes info and just use the inches and degree of change numbers.

Just one more question,
Until two days ago I didn't know there was another way of lowering our cars on the front then lowered spindles or an adjustable front beam.
When lowering the front say two splines will the ride get very hard, just as it gets with an adjustable front beam? Or will it still be near stock comfort?
Thanks,
Dennis |

That's the beauty of the type 3 beam, in that it keeps the same ride whether at stock height, or lowered. Just be aware that when dropping the front, you might be sitting on the lower bump stops. You'll need to remove them to get the suspension to work. Otherwise, you'll just be riding around on them, and the ride WILL be harsh (no suspension to move). _________________ Bob 65 Notch S with Sunroof

It's basically "what you see is what you get". It's not rocket science. With a Bentley or Haynes, you should be able to figure it out. Also, start reading from the beginning of this thread, as there's some good advice along the way. It should take about 1.5 to 2 hours to do the front, and about 3 hours to do the rear. The first side will always be the hardest to do, since you're trying to figure out how it all comes apart. _________________ Bob 65 Notch S with Sunroof

well, the original videos were removed. So, valid question.
No, there isn't. Take one side of the front apart, and you will see how it works. Thats the best advice I can give. It's very easy, I think Bob's times allow for some beer drinkin and learning. I think a newb could probably figure it all out in a couple hours like stated, someone thats done it before half that time or faster. I can drop a type 3 all around in less than 90 minutes if the tools are all laid out in advance. If you were in Houston I'd supervise and drink your beer while you learn lol. maybe someone local can teach ya _________________ Stop dead photo links! Post your photos to The Samba Gallery! |

I rough figured the times for a complete newbie, and without having the tools laid out. The number 1 tool I'd buy before I started is an angle finder. That way you can match both sides to each other. _________________ Bob 65 Notch S with Sunroof
