|
|
I've got a question that I need answered quick fast
I've crashed my 69 fasty and bent the panhead, but the rest of the pan is in top notch condition.
I'm loooking at a 65 Notch that's got a late model pan but it's rusted as hell...
Can I take the pan head from the 65 notch and weld it onto the 69 frame ?
How hard is this?
I've tried searching but I haven't been successful with the search terms
I really appreciate a quick reply, as i'm about to back out of the deal if I can't get an appropriate answer

I would guess that a Frame Shop would love the work.
P.S. I can cut/ship you a panhead if you don't want to cut up the '65. _________________ http://s169.photobucket.com/albums/u236/mr_bojangles500/

Dave, glad you were not hurt, but put up some carnage pics.
Remember your wrecked pan is an auto, different than a manual... Not sure what you're planning with the Notch, but probably easier to get a manual pan. Or use the tunnel from the Notch and weld in the old Fasty's pan halves.

Also, I should mention, that IF you're replacing the pan head, you'll NEED the body to be off the pan. This way, you can double check everything for being square. Here's a couple of pics of my pan head swap.
And a gratuitous used pan swap (same car) for reference.
One other thing, IF you decide to replace the entire rolling pan section (or middle pan and tunnel section), get a title with it, as you'll be changing VIN's, and California might not like you doing that. Some states are fussy about pan swaps. Just a heads up. _________________ Bob 65 Notch S with Sunroof

Bret, Thanks for the kind words. As far as pictures go, I don't have many, only one actually, and I already took off a lot of the sheet metal that was removeable, and took a sawzall to the front clip to get the wiring harness and gas tank out and start deconstruction
i've got a title for the fastback that got wrecked, I was thinking of either using the pan halves from that or swapping the panhead from the notch onto the fasty pan, or getting the fasty panhead straightened and reinforced at a body shop
why is the auto pan so different? If i was to use the fasty pan I would keep it automatic, and I thought that the pans were exactly the same as far as bolt pattern, but I could be wrong. I know there are differences in the tunnels, but nothing I thought would interfere when swapping a body
