It's Totally hacked... and I mean badly... it looks NOTHING like a complete one. Here is a complete one:
Yours is missing the entire section near the dipstick, openings for the heat risers have been snipped and expanded, its rusty, with actual HOLES in it. No split owner would bother to put this on their car. _________________ DB

Basically... zero, it's garbage.

It is weird that it has a double lip but it's still seriously hacked up:
No one reproduces the 25hp/36hp rear tin as far as I know but they are for sale all the time. _________________ How to Post Photos

Perhaps the car had it's apron replaced with a later one or someone put a 25hp in a much later car so they tacked on part of a 1200-1600 apron to take up the slack? _________________ Chris

Or it could be an adapter tin. If someone had to install a 60s rear apron onto a pre 53 car, the original 25hp tin wouldn't work, so a custom piece would have to fill the gap. _________________

Please have a look:
http://www.thesamba.com/vw/classifieds/detail.php?id=1599234
Wrong fenders at the front, wrong headliner- work, wrong colours for wheel center, wrong coloured rubber mat in the front, wrong front apron, 12 Volt ...
but it's all in an excellent condition (1), won different awards, ...
... and should have a woth of $50000???
After buying, I need to invest at least $15000 for removing or rework the wrong panels, colours and.... ??? |

Perhaps I'm wrong with the fenders. But if they're right, they have installed a wrong frontaxle. |

Looks like a tank vent hose. My '50 when it came from Sweden had one. _________________ John Henry

Yepp, and being a Swede myself I can vouch for that this feature was not totally uncommon over here back in the day I too think this tampered car seems very pricey though... |

Wrong rear fenders
Wrong rear bumper mounts but they look OE to the panel so maybe even wrong rear half?
Running board mats fit poorly, or are they supposed to fold up on the fender like that?
Wrong inner front fender well; no headlight tube or mounting holes?
Wrong front apron
Pans and pan hardware are wrong
Rear cross members are wrong. What happened to the front and rear heater holes?
Ignoring all the cosmetic issues that could be swapped out for correct ones, the structural issues are a much bigger effort to correct if a person wanted a stock car.
I'd want to compare that chassis number on the screwed on plate to the one on the chassis to see if the pan was even a match for the year.
I agree with John on the value. Maybe even less though.
It's a nice 20 foot looker. |
