I think I understand your sentiments. This "hobby" has transitioned from one of enthusiasts, to one of greedy speculators and investors, whose sole interest is money, no matter how much they have. Here is a link to that type of thinking.

Yes greed, I get that.
But many here have common sense, or has the The Samba transitioned to the insane or straight greedy?
There are many on the forums who are just common folk, wanting to expand their interest in VW's and learn. Those who think their going to strike it rich just because they have 55 with ribbed doors is a fools errand, maybe.
There are no check and balances here, so who knows. But as the saying goes, a fool and their money will soon be parted.
I would love to meet a guy who pays 30,000 for a piece of junk. But then again, it has crotch coolers, so........... _________________ 55 Oval |

Just follow any TV auction and you'll see money leave the fool. Are you looking for vindication that people are stupid and prone to poor decisions?
The VW market is full of folly and stupid prices. THe days of the gentleman's hobby have been pushed underground. Its not about who you know - rather who knows you.
Go buy a bus for a reasonable price - then complain again about a split window bug. Bargain basement shit is just that - shit. _________________

$65K and interior material is incorrect. Seats have wrong humps on the stitching, not sure what's on the firewall, but it's not right, wrong air cleaner decal, two tone distributor cap, are those grooved semaphores? picky I know, but for that price it should be perfect.

Maybe, or perhaps those who owned them as teens want them again now, without all the work. I drove a '60 in high school. I wanted an oval then, hell I WANTED a split.
I bought an older oval restoration, less repop parts, some use wear, full disassembly color change, generally nice. I PAID to have it done. I use it as a driver. I could have bought a $30k resto, or the same for much worse split.
I suspect there is a curve in value, and we are on the ca-ching side (for desireable cars.) Old Ford T and A cars seem to be on the dowhill side now.
Perhaps some are speculating, but I would guess most are getting what they remember -- what they wanted as a teen. We don't necessary like the price but don't want to do all the work, we will pay the price because we have some idea of the time (not to mention cost, espcially if you get in a hurry.) _________________

Decent car, but why not make a little more effort and put a "D" regulator, correct distributor and propper air cleaner on it? Hub caps... huh? A black radio block off, no cover on the fuses by the spare tire, for every nut and bolt cleaned, the choke escutcheon looks dirty. (who lined up the seams on the rear trim on the split? I know everyone's a critic, but for $54K you should be getting more for a non matching pan and engine. |

Can anyone tell me if semaphores were standard or an option on a 1948 split window beetle. Im looking to purchase one but no sign of semaphores or weld over. thanks |

Semaphores were definitely standard on a '48 Beetle. Do you have any pics to post of the car in question? |

I was looking at a 1948 with no semaphores. Does anyone know if there was a factory delete or were they standard? any help appreciated. Thanks |
