I figure I should add to this forum. I just picked up my long block from Mofoc
yesterday. My engine block was still on the test stand when I got there. Ordered my long block back in April. I'm 160 miles from the shop and California is a long ways to go for a long block. So order it from Roy. Great day for a the ride to get it. I didn't speak to Roy. But I did talk with Paul. The shop was busy with aircooled cars. Nice looking Porch in there. Bought more parts and headed back to IL. Looked over the engine block every thing looked neat and clean. I'm not sure when I'll run the engine. I had ordered dual carbs from Paul when I was there and will be shipped out some time this week. So if you ordered an engine its in the line to get done. Roy was up front with me about the delay in getting the long block done. Shortage of heads. For me it wasn't to critical, when I ordered it the car was in pieces all over my garage and still is. Still learning how to weld. Dan |

Just got an email from Paul that my motor is on its way (July 15th, 09) Roy was very sorry it took so long and offered $100 in parts as a good gesture, which I think is very kind.
Roy said one reason the motor took so long to build is the fact that one engine builder is sick and that he received a couple of new cases that were not up to par. He said due to time constraints he built the motor himself.
Once this motor shows up it will be at least six weeks before a can install it, because my family just grew. It will be a while before I can report how it runs. I'm glad Roy cares enough to make sure the parts he puts in a motor are high quality. I don't want a motor built with a bad case and in retrospect would rather wait two weeks extra and have the job done appropriately. |

Just got the motor today. I havn't started it up yet, but it sure looks good. New case, new everything. They even included a gasket set for all the components I have to bolt on and a really cool set of aluminum valve covers. Motor was shipped on a pallet and very well packaged. Also, they definately test ran the motor, which is great.
Roy also sent $100 worth of parts, because it took three weeks longer to build this engine. I think that is a very nice gesture. Now comes the fun part, the test drive! |

| Just wanted to let all potential new customers(or people that just want to bring their engine in) that our dyno is finally up and running. We test ran a stock engine yesterday just to make sure the calibration was correct. We are also offering a new service for free. Anyone that buys and engine(longblock or complete) I will be recording 2-4 minutes of video and e-mailing you a copy of your actual engine running during our test run. As of now, dyno runs will be free but eventually I will start charging a fee($50) I think. Please pm me with any specific questions. |

Purchased a stock 1600 muffler from Mofoco and their online
listing stated 5 available. My CC payment was made
by phone on Oct. 28.
The muffler finally arrived on Nov. 16.
19 days to get a muffler delivered.
No problem with the part, but their customer service
really needs some improvement.
Poor packaging also as UPS delivered a trashed box
with the rear muffler flanges poking through the cardboard.
They will need repair before the exhaust tips can be fitted.
No way was delivery going to be refused after waiting 19 days. _________________ ****************************

Well I have filed a dispute via Paypal. Ordered an engine beginning of Nov., hoping will get it within 6 weeks since that was stated. Weeks gone by with the same excuses. Delay after delay. Got fed up with the run around. Things haven't change. Should have ordered the parts and assemble the engine myself. Just giving them the benefits of the doubt. _________________ 1995 Eurovan Camper (SOLD)

Lee, a friend of mine got a pair for a engine I was building for him and I was impressed with the look and the extra cooling fins on them, He has only had them for 6 months and has had no trouble so far but he also don't put many miles on them. When you read so much negativity it makes you wonder.
If you mean why did I ordered them after reading this thread, I didn’t, I just came across this thread after the fact.
I also had a VW repair shop for 22 years and understand that people will put you down for no real cause if they don't get what they want no matter how unreasonable it is. So, I just hope I made a good choice.

Can't believe I haven't posted here yet, I've bought from Roy more than once.
I like MOFOCO, and Roy's a heck of a guy. Took a while to get my case done, but was well worth the wait. Machine work was top notch on the clearancing, and the hyfraulic cam package looks very nice as well. They get busy at times, so be patient and you'll be happy with what you get.
Hope progress is coming along on the casting mods to the 050 head too, the hobby needs that head BADLY. _________________ Build thread: http://www.thesamba.com/vw/forum/viewtopic.php?t=212747

Well apparently paypal refuses to accept my dispute because it has exceed the 45 days window. . I guess I will have to resort to legal action or have my friend in Ohio take a ride over there. I really hate for this to happen. _________________ 1995 Eurovan Camper (SOLD)

Like I have already e-mailed to you directly, you are in ZERO danger of not getting your engine. I am doing long needed updates to my CNC machine that actually machines the raw head castings. I have 60 castings just waiting for this to be done, I actually just sent someone to pick up the hard drives and control boards and we should be up and running VERY soon. Again, I am sorry for the delay and I did offer to ship this engine for free because of the delay. Would you like to take advantage of that offer? Please let me know. |

Roy, as I have replied via email that I am not really interested in any types of discount or monetary compensation. I just want an exact DATE of when my engine will be done or a full refund so I can pick up another engine from alternate source. _________________ 1995 Eurovan Camper (SOLD)

So I have filed a complaint form with the Federal Trade Commission. After 30 days I have the right to cancel but I waited even longer than that. They have since stopped communicating with me with my last post and email asking for refund above. All I want is my money. I guess they want to drag this out or thinking I am too far to do anything.
In case if anyone is not fully versed on your rights. Try the FTC first. then small claims court.

Hey guys, just wanted to post up my experience with Mofoco. This happened just a few weeks ago.
I ordered a hydraulic cam kit with the reground stock cam and cam gears.
At first I got the package.... the packing was terrible. The cam gear had come through the side of the box so I contact Roy and he got me sent over a UPS label and on its way back to him it went. I mentioned that the used parts were a bit too used for my likings so he sent me off a different set which ended up looking great.
Many companies are afraid to admit fault... this is not the case for Roy. He is a top notch service provider and answers everything promptly.
The hydraulic lifters and custom pushrods for them looked amazing as well. I cant wait to try them out!
Thanks again Roy.... I would put money on it that i will buy from you again. _________________ Rest in peace Morgan.

| I am trying to get some more info on mofoco engines. I recently called them to purchase there project streetwise 1776 with hyd assembly. Is there anyone here now running this engine or ran it recently or know of anyone who is besides what has already been said on this thread? I actually ordered my engine early yesterday then did some research on the net AFTER I ordered the engine and got scared from what I was finding. To make a long story short I am tinkering with the thought of canceling my order with them unless I can get something positive about them and not 10 bad and one good thing! I have herd that they had "paste tense" problems but have now been cleared up. Is there any truth to this? I had placed a post in the wrong section "I THINK" since it was locked after just one reply of a bunch of old posts I already read. I feel like God when he asked Noah to find some good people in sodom and gommarah LOL... |

Ok I decided it would be in my best interest to cancel the order. I already told him I was wanting to but now I have emailed him to make it official. It's only been 2 days since my order was placed but actually I told him the next morning to cancel my order and they had told me originally it would be 4 weeks before I get it. Any ways I believe he should cancel the transaction on my card no problem Monday but I am still thinking about there heads and maybe there case and hyd lifter set? I may use them on my new rebuild for it seems that people are pretty happy with those items correct? |

I love going to MOFOCO. They have always helped me and gave good advice. I bought some special order stuff there once and had to return it and they broke policy and swapped me for the parts that I needed. They are nice guys. I can't believe the amount of mudslinging that goes on here. I wouldn't share these stories of "dishonesty" and shoddy workmanship until the situation at hand is resolved. Nor would I sling mud in the face of a place like MOFOCO or GoWesty or Boston Bob for that matter!!!!! These are the places that we have left to deal with to get parts for your VW bus or whatever you are cherishing.
Its like going to a restaurant, getting a steak, and wanting a refund after you ate it all because it wasn't done correctly. And when they ask for the steak back, you give them a hot steamy turd.
It seems that people are so quick to get pissed and have no patience. The guy who was waiting for a refund...okay, that sounds like a mistake and it was taken care of. MOFOCO tried to make good with the transmission lady. She didn't want what they offered. 'Nuff said. Here's your money and have a nice day. I used to work with people like that. Where's the love people? Understanding and trying to work toward a common goal should take priority instead of calling a guy up and swearing at him. That would mos def turn me off. _________________ 1993 VW Eurovan 5-Speed
