Seats: It's a possibility I may get a rear and center seat from Christopher, but I'm not so sure about that. If anyone has a rear or center seat in springs or otherwise that's too heinous for your project or to be sold, well, this one is gonna' need both. The center seat is gonna' be a hard-to-pull-off item, but again, in the off-chance someone has 14 center seats in their attic... I'll take the really scurvy one rusting out in the dog kennel... pretty please...
Additional valuable project donations:
Skylights: Looking for someone to step up for the skylight reproduction in Plexiglass. A fringe benefit of doing this project is that when someone is tooled-up to make them, they can squeeze-out sets easily to sell at a generous profit. Proper glass is curved. Cut Plexiglass can be heated and clamped around a jig for the bend. This is one of the big projects I'm not going to have the time to get to right away.
Sun Woof: The other huge issue is the sunroof hole.... it's kind'a missing something. Unfortunately that "something" is a high-dollar item unavailable to this project. If someone is interested in donating their creativity to "make" a similarly useful sliding sunroof, well, I'm not exactly gonna' be able to pull that one off without help either. Thought I'd toss it out there and see if anyone was feeling extra frisky.
An Artist: with a steady hand for tiny paint-brush lettering. This person gets to number the 500-plus holes in the bus, in addition to lettering on it the names of all who've contributed to it's resurrection. This is a simple-yet detail-oriented job for someone able to print in a very proper, consistent English (and bonus if able in German).
For now that's all, unless you have something you might suggest (the likes of which a highly generous doner just PMailed me... thank you!!). |
Can you give an update on what parts are still needed?

No. I have a friend of a friend with a big piece of property in rural Snohomish County. All the ranges around here only let you shoot at paper. Wimps.

Brian mentioned somewhere earlier that he didn't want as many holes to the lid. I will try to make it look like it was original to the bus as best I can.

I got the front turn signals and tail lights in the mail last night, thank you Mr. Mullins! Nice fried eggs! I'll be putting them in when I get back from Washington.
I'm flying out to Eureka for the night, followed by a stop in Medford for the night and and thence on to Olympia for a friday morning arrival and weekend of parts scrounging.
I'm gonna' be doing a lot of "shopping" this weekend, so I'll properly update the list of needs when I return. However, if someone has a rear seat assembly of springs and rust, well, we do rust! Looking for a handful of seat clamps too... Bay Window clamps ok. Shipping that might be a problem though...
I'll be looking forward to seeing all you guys up there. My next post will be from Medford.
Tomahawk N2371L off at Santa Rosa 3pm direct Mendocino VOR, direct Fortuna VOR, landing Rohnerville... Sorry I couldn't stay in the office today... LOL!

Thanks. By the way, anyone know the size of the screws that hold the lock on the decklid? Also, I checked the box the decklid came in and the decklid prop was not in there, so someone will need to donate one.

I think Brian is requesting birdshot. Maybe a blast from a 12-gauge in the lower left corner, and a little one from a 410 in the other side?

There are still Tomahawks flying? I learned to fly in one, but I thought that all the ones that hadn't met an abrupt demise had gone to the boneyard long ago...
Back on topic: Engine hatch looks great. I sure hope that this bus will live out its resurrected life in a desert, as it would rust away in a year in a humid climate!

Still so many Tomahawks around there are schools that use them exclusively, Mazzei in Fresno is one such school. The plane is superior to a 152 and teaches by design, the importance of airspeed in the pattern. In fact, more 150s and 152s have spun in than Tomahawks, albeit due to the higher number of Cessnas. I flew up here from Medford at 10.5 averageing groundspeed 120knots. VFR On Top from Eugene to Olympia... very cool flight.
I guess birdshot was what I meant. The whole ass of the bus was stripped of paint mostly from raking of birdshot. Besides the solid pound of deformed bullets on the cargo floor, I also found lots of bb shot too, which I guess is birdshot. So buckshot is like ball bearings I guess huh?
Yes, we're going to try to keep the bus dry, although there's not a lot of metal left to rust off lol! |
