Damn, that must have been cold! Were you wearing a snow suit the whole time? Even driving a snowmobile would've been warmer, since you can duck behind the windscreen and get some heat off the engine. Not so with this bus. |
Sorry just saw this. I wore some really nice waterproof hiking boots and a set of insulated chest waders over my clothes. I still got soaked.
I also have the frame ( what's left of it) for the middle seat for this bus. _________________ 71 Westy Roadcow

The Bullet Bus has a new local owner. Ken from Davenport took her home this evening. I already miss her. |

I just found this thread and have been enjoying slowly paging through it. Did have one question. Have you ever been hassled by the CHP or the locals? Would hate to see how long it would take them to write a Fix It ticket up.

In the almost 3 years of owning her I never got pulled over. I had 3 blue cop strobe lights (mounted in the interior below the windows) as well as 3 red LED lights and a disco ball. Was pretty entertaining powering them up while driving down the road at night. |

Cool the bus will be staying local, and I can understand the need to clear some space for the growing harem of buses you're amassing. Could you post some more details about the new owner since so many here had a hand in putting the bus back on the road.
Here's a memory I have. That's Drew and Mark Merz in the incredible "Shrine Bus" several hours north of Grapevine blasting home from OCTO...
Link
Another memory. I was going to school in San Francisco at the time I heard from Gene Cornelious about finding this bus. It was nighttime, I was studying at a coffee shop down off 8th and Judah in the Sunset District -not far from the Height Ashbury- when I picked up his call. He told me the story of finding the bus in such vivid description, I think my first response was complete commitment: "We're leaving as soon as possible on the mission to recover that thing!" And it was so. Less than a week later we had done the 1500 miles or so deep into Nevada with trailer and come-a-longs, and in the dark of night -to hell with the possible surveillance the government may have had watching those Area 51 high desert hills- Gene and I landed on sight at 3am, and were northbound fully loaded at 3:50... outta' there!
Two hours down the road from the extraction... couldn't pass up this sign:
Greg and Clara donated good parts and positive waves toward the project. Here's an image of them in their favorite room in the house:
They were instrumental in getting me too and from Kombisutrair with some of the parts:
Some of the booty into the plane, to include the Arthernugen "Gunner" Lawyer-obliterated decklid and swap meet found Anthracite Grey smoothy with matching sexy and perfect bias ply:
Good times, and more good times coming! |

Wow!!! thank you for sharing the pics, video and story. Alot of people have expressed interest in buying the bus over the years. I'd always start the conversation with. "Have you ever owned a bus before ? " Then lead into " What are your plans with the bus " If the reply was " I'm gonna slam that bitch on earlies" They'd walk away wearing one my patented pimp slap tattoos on their cheek
" Ken " the new owner would randomly show up to admire the bus. He spoke of possibly purchasing the bus, but I never realy gave it much thought. In one of our conversations he told me " I had a dream about the bus" I ignored his statement and rambled on about something unimportant. About 30 minutes later I got round to asking him what the dream was about. He says " I had a dream that I slept in the bus " My reply was nonexistant however, I was thinking fair enough kid, fair enough.......... |

Glad she went to a good home and hope to hear more about her. I wish I could find that awesome youtube posted with the eerie music. It was at a show somewhere no sound other than the music and 360 view. Can someone post it or link it? _________________ American Red Cross Safe And Well:

Have you considered simply starting with a nicer bus? I don't know what your skills are, but the race is easier if you can see the finish line. If you are not a runner, don't start off doing a marathon. |

I tried to take a picture of it with a light source inside while I had it, but it just didn't come out very well.

I'd say that's spooky enough for "spooky day". That was an incredible job you did on that whole electrical system Tom. |

I was assured by Ken when I sold him the Bus that it would continue to be shown at, ummm shows. I've yet to see it ANY shows and have gotten a couple reports that it is now either in Montery or Fresno getting " Restored " might want to ad some coilovers to support the bondo. |

I like this idea.
I am sad about the new fate of this bus, I wish I had known it was available. |
