|
|
Hi there,
I deal with goods that are lost in transit on behalf of parcel companies. I need to put a report together on an engine discover in a crate.
One of the part numbers is 043 101 102. I can e-mail you photos if it helps.
I need to identify which engine it is? Spec.? Which vehicles suitable and current value?
Regards,
Kam |

we put reports together on lost in transit goods on behalf of companies such as tnt, dhl and city link.
this engine came in a crate where there was obvious damage to the labelling, hence lost.
we try to trace back goods to original sender via part numbers, serial numbers or put together description and valuation for insurance purposes.
we have many other lost goods that we don't even know what they are so we start from the manufacturers.
its funny that you think this is a scam. its only a flippin engine! if your looking for scammers, just go on ebay and look for an unbelievable bargain or respond to one of those million dollar e-mails we have all got in the past from the former ambassador of some african country!
i was very being very honest and straighforward with you. if you can't be of assistance, nevermind. |

That's one of the part numbers for the case, not really helpful in narrowing it down. If you look higher up by the crank end, can you see more numbers?
Here's where the serial number of the engine would be:

AR is a legitimate case number, used on European 1300cc engines from 8/73-7/75. _________________ 1974 Thing -- under the knife

Ah. The last three digits of a head would be like 371, 373, 375, possibly with some suffix. 101/102 is a case half.
The AR cases, while originally used for small Euro engines, are dual-relief and have the larger oil passages, so they are good candidates for high-performance engines. I would be surprised if the engine in question hasn't been built up. _________________ 1974 Thing -- under the knife

Judging by the sump plate, if it hasn't been changed, looks to be a '72 or '73-on motor (VW did away with the drain plug by that time). |

Is that a chunk of the case missing by the #1 cylinder? (top right in the photos, near the flywheel)
If I had to make a guess, I would say that this was a core engine, on it's way back to an engine rebuilder. I can't think of any other reason why someone would pay $$ to ship an engine in this kind of condition...

What would cause that? It's pretty far to the side. Might it've been punched in from something falling on it? |
