Found the absolute last piece I needed (for the time being at least) for my resto - the driver's side sliding door pop-out latch!

I spent half of the day cleaning out the bus. The inside and outside are now "clean". The cleaning is one of the many things I have to complete before I can get it into the garage in a parking place. Getting it off the four jacks is up next.

Here's a before and an after shot. I had about 10 pounds of wet of rust and crap come out.

Took my rear bumper, mounts and splash pans to the powder coater today. Took a engine block and other parts to get checked and cleaned up to start an engine build up. Removed front bumper and mounts and realigned driver's door sag.

So Iam driving home last night I hit a pothole and the front end starts to make a weird noise. Stop to check it out but cant see too much in the dark, when I got home I got a light and see that I lost a top, front shock bolt. WTF! So anyway I check out an aircooled shop in Santa Rosa no luck but he tells to try Gary at Sonoma VW and he did have one. I lucked out and the bolt just came loose and fell out, didnt screw up the threads or break off. Just wait until I talk to the guy who changed the shocks(Oh wait that would be me Embarassed )......................

What I did on my summer vacation...
-Basic tune up
-Welded/repaired broken bowden tube bracket on the tranny
-Renewed (L) CV joint seal--leak fixed
-Welded a tow hitch (re-positioned a mounting upright and added an anti-rattle bolt)
-Fab'd a bracket and mounted a back up light (the Daddybus is an early '67)
Image may have been reduced in size. Click image to view fullscreen.

-Restored and mounted a AAA plaque (era correct)
Image may have been reduced in size. Click image to view fullscreen.

-Installed a NOS steering box (filled with cornhead grease)
-Installed a steering lock ignition (extended the stock ignition wires)
-Installed 3-way switch in old ignition switch hole--fog lights=up, driving lights=down)
-Replaced a worn left front tire and realigned the front end (toe was knocked out).
-Fixed the clunking noise in the front end (2 wheel studs were contacting the caliper) by grinding the studs and facing the caliper followed by gloss black hi temp paint
-Adjusted the drag link
-Reworked the pedal pan to fit the TRW steering box
Image may have been reduced in size. Click image to view fullscreen.

-Added a demarcation block with separate strips for the starter battery (#30 Red/Black) and the deep cycle "house" battery (Red/White)
-Re-wired the auxilary fuse block on the passenger side (starter battery: #30 foglights/driving lights 3-way switch, #30 fog light relay, #30 driver light relay; house battery: 12v outlet/cb, radio/12v outlet, interior lights
-installed a demarcation block for ground and ran new ground wires for auxilary gauges, 12v outlets, light relays
-Fab'd a mount for the fog light & driving light relays
fog lights (orange L, orange/black R)
driving lights (green L, green/black R)
Image may have been reduced in size. Click image to view fullscreen.

-Installed fog lights
-Installed grills on fog lights
-Installed driving lights
-Installed grills on driving lights
-Installed VW Safety Man on license plate topper
-Installed flag holder on license plate topper
Image may have been reduced in size. Click image to view fullscreen.

-Installed a gas filler flap inside the filler neck to keep the gas from sloshing out when I make a left turn
Image may have been reduced in size. Click image to view fullscreen.

I still need to install the kick panels, a rear fog light, and a Dash mounted (above the oil temp gauge) LED that comes on with the auxilary oil cooler fan.
