Removed old paint from an original pressed bumper that I bought here on the samba a few years ago. I straightened it out as best i could awhile back. I think it should be pretty usable now.

Stuco and I managed to fit three buses in a two car garage. Three buses and one roof clip.
I thought I was going to have to leave the normal stuff a guy has in his garage out in the elements. Then I remembered that I have a shed.
It is easy access due to the double doors.
Maybe we can fit one more.... |

I decided to take Clara's (and other's) advice that engines should have thermostats and installed one. I got the flaps and mount from Awesome Powdercoat.

It came with the flaps and thermostat from Awesome Powdercoat. He may sell just the spring. Can't hurt to ask.

After the sun went down, I had two full hours for VW stuff. I removed the last two rolls of house insulation from the driver's side of the cargo area. Then did some sweeping and vacuuming around the two engines.
Check out the exhaust pipes on this pair. Must be former dune buggy engines.

I'm replacing all my shift rod bushings before I install my trans. Typical PITA front shift rod coupler. After soaking, beating, heating, cussing, etc. I decided to cut it with my Dremel. I dug into the shift rods slightly in a few places but nothing to cause any harm. I'll be sure to lube the rod ends and new coupler up with anti-seize. Nothing new to the bus veterans but this is my first bus so I'm getting the initiation.

Over the last week or so, I changed the oil and associated seal/gaskets/etc, replaced rubber fuel lines (almost had a fire hazard on my hands), and removed old pointed rear bumper and replaced with stripped/primered/painted correct slash rear on my '62 DC. She's coming around slowly but surely.
Cheers,

Yesterday, I dropped my bus....
And then I spent a while picking it back up off the floor and getting it back on the jack stands
I thought about photos, but was too embarrassed. Best news, I wasn't under it, and other good news is it did little damage. _________________ I need a long camper side WINDOW for a 66 Riviera - please let me know if you have one!

Rooky mistake. Ive been trying to fix some things under the wheel well and theres not much room with a welding helmet, and keeping clear vision for a beginner welder. So, I decided to jack it a little higher from the rear. It was all looking great (going slow), then the front jack stands skidded forward and the jack followed. I had one front left wheel on, and the rear jack stands caught under some of the frame. So the entire bus actually stayed off the ground, just dented my frame a little (and my pride). Its not a show bus, just patching it back to a daily driver, so the new dents in the frame support did not worry me too much. There were already others under there. I wish I had some more height though to make this easier. _________________ I need a long camper side WINDOW for a 66 Riviera - please let me know if you have one!

Installed one of WW slider window locks today. My OG lock was striped out when I removed it, this one is very nice, about the same weight and works great.

I started to put my engine on a standard engine stand to drain the oil and 'refurbish' it (spark plugs, wires, and stuff).
After looking at the stand and the engine and not wanting to break the studs or case, I decided to do some engine stand thread reading, Glenn's posts included.
Being hard headed, I ended up spending half the day trying and failing to get the engine on the stand.
I learned a lot, like buy the right part. This was after I cut the long pipes on two of the stand arms to be able to get nuts on the short studs. Next, I learned (first hand mind you) that the fly wheel was still in the way. I didn't quit, I swapped the bolts around so the short head was closer to the fly wheel and I moved the arms to the back of the plate.
LOL.
I have a shipment of metal coming from a Samba classified seller. I called and asked him to throw in a VW Engine Stand Yoke if possible. As luck would have it, he had a few and I will be receiving the right part for the job soon.
My 'wasted' half day is shown below. The circle shows the cut pipe and the arrow shows where I flipped the bolts and arms around.
The good news is that nothing VW was harmed while making this post.

Last year I redid the entire brake system on this bus and the front wheels cylinders were crap since day one.

Hey Y'all,
Possibly in the wrong place with this question but I thought I'd ask anyway...
(1967 Bus) I am changing my oil cooler to a late model oil cooler with the offset bracket, doghouse, etc. and the studs for the offset bracket won't fit into the case holes (x2) that hold the bracket (the stud coming up from the case is smaller too but a washer and nut can fix that "problem"). The studs are slightly too big. I can easily drill out the holes but thought I would ask first before I start drilling. Is this normal? Do I have the wrong bracket? Earlier cases have smaller holes? Friends haven't experienced this problem so I am out of peopple to ask.........until now.
Any help/advice would be greatly appreciated!
Cheers! |

I put some hubcap decals on my late commercial caps.
I forgot to take a before pic so here's a "just getting started" pic.
Here's the finished product with a light coat of wax.
