Hey Y'all,
Possibly in the wrong place with this question but I thought I'd ask anyway...
(1967 Bus) I am changing my oil cooler to a late model oil cooler with the offset bracket, doghouse, etc. and the studs for the offset bracket won't fit into the case holes (x2) that hold the bracket (the stud coming up from the case is smaller too but a washer and nut can fix that "problem"). The studs are slightly too big. I can easily drill out the holes but thought I would ask first before I start drilling. Is this normal? Do I have the wrong bracket? Earlier cases have smaller holes? Friends haven't experienced this problem so I am out of peopple to ask.........until now. Smile
Any help/advice would be greatly appreciated!
Cheers!

Yes, earlier cases have smaller holes. Usually I drill out the case on the ears and use a step stud off the threaded hole. I have not seen a doghouse adapter setup with 6mm holes/studs before.

Replace my uh-oh 9 with a rebuilt 205T distributor. What a difference.

Did you rebuild it yourself or is there someone offering that service these days?

finally stripped down all the gunk, rust, and crappy parts off the spare beam I've been rebuilding. Time to take the other one out of the bus and start building it back up.

I did this one myself but it didn't need much -- just cleaning, shims, washers and new points and condenser.

Both Tim (tasb) and Glenn rebuild them.

Thanks. I am going to try my hand at one, but it is nice to know there is some backup out there. I knew about Glenn's 010 and 019 service, just didn't know he did SVDA stuff.

Joined the "Dumped My Engine on the Floor Club". It really tipped over backwards and was balancing at an angle, but that counts.

I did manage to get it up on the engine stand.

Yesterday, I picked up two high hinge panel cargo doors, a bay z-bed and full size middle seat, two headlight buckets with early lenses, and another set of bug ones.

I love that video. Laughing

I shoehorned my rear bumper in my Z28, the bus is more important. The things you do with no immediate access to a truck.

The best part of the video is when he mentions going back to stock due to all the problems caused by modifications.

That is not a direct quote...but captures the spirit.

Now, that was an engine drop.

PostPosted: Wed Apr 08, 2015 5:04 pm    Post subject: Birth Cert Reply with quote

I ordered a Birth Certificate for the Oct. 55 Kombi I found a few months back. Since VW didn't put M-Code plates on buses back then I figured why not give it a shot?

The ordering part was easy until it came time for the payment processor. The form was in German and euro credit cards have extra 'features' than U.S. cards so I didn't have information for a few of the fields. It turned out OK in the end, I think... I will post when I receive it in the mail to find the number of days elapsed.

Got this email.

That's what Google translate is for. My wife is Polish and when we first met Google Translate was the only way for us to communicate. I actually used Google Translate to understand the payment form on the VW site. It helped a lot.

Received this in the mail.

It's for my 59 w/t DD Panel. Got it off eBay for $134 (including shipping). I can out bid most keyboard jockeys because the rent on my single wide trailer in Alabama is a whole lot less than a house in California. That might be what economies of scale means but I ain't sure due to dropping out of school in the eleventeenth grade.

So you figure $134 was a good deal and that you beat out some other keyboard jockeys to buy it? The last few emblems I got were either free or under ten bucks. I left my house and went to a swap meet and a few junk yards. No single wide necessary. Or ebay for that matter.

Is that SWR? It doesn't look like it but it could be the lighting.
