Changed the brushes on my generator. Top was first and was pretty easy. Bottom was more of a pain but got through it. Took an hour or so. Need to pick me up some snub screwdrivers... _________________ 69 Sunroof Deluxe - Montana Red/Cloud White (Sold)

Created a new reverse light harness as some PO thought it wasn't necessary. New OG housings (old ones were stripped) and reverse lights are now working great.
Also cleaned up a spare set of OG headlights with new seals/paint to replace my rusted buckets.

Started the bus after a couple months of sitting due to my work schedule. Engine wouldn't idle so i pulled the carb off and cleaned the idle jet and all the other passages out. Re-installed, started up and all is back to normal (for now)! |

After putting up with a very difficult to close passenger door, I finally used the 2x4 pry trick outlined in several other threads. MUCH improved. I can close it now without lifting and closing simultaneously. Still a little tight, likely because it's been hit on that front right corner eons ago, and never fixed. |

Is that some sort of see-through screen in the left side of the picture? It looks like you're in a garage. |

Looks like some kind of sunshade or landscaping material. Good to keep the dust down when blasting. _________________ Your Vanagon sucks, Stop waving at me.

That's in my carport; I kicked a couple of cars out so I'd have enough elbow room for blasting. The front and back have shade cloth coverings. _________________ -Thom

The other day Greg replaced the bad generator in the kombi. The red light had been intermittently saying hi for a bit, then as of early July just stayed on. But honestly, it is summer and is fully light at 5am, and didn't get dark till 10:30. You can push start the bus if needed. On the trip round the Olympic Peninsula we did have to swap batteries with Matt's bus after a few days, though.
So I did the diagnostic and yes it was the generator. Greg found we had a brand new Bosch generator in the box. He started to try to replace it with motor in the bus, but decided it was too much of a PITA, and just pulled the motor to swap it out.
The hub was kinda stuck on the fan, and you could just see a crack starting. It was not as bad as Richies:
but the center bit popped off when the hub was removed.
All together with a good fan and new generator, and now the light stays off. _________________ The Obsolete Air-Cooled Documentation Project http://oacdp.org/ |

Installed some new WW front seat belts, ivory wiper and headlight knobs, painted the shifter plate, greased my shifter and covered it with a new boot. Added a new ivory shifter knob. Heat shrank some sleeves over some questionable wiring. Swapped two pop out spoons so they were even on each side and installed a new cleat and strap. Then I drove her on her maiden voyage with me!
Oh, and left a few things soaked in PB! _________________ 69 Sunroof Deluxe - Montana Red/Cloud White (Sold)

|
|
I wanted to pass on some good info...
Just installed The Locking Rear hatch and Locking Engine Lid Latch on my '67 Bus. They were Original '67 parts and I ordered them from
Chadd Magee. [email protected]
They fit perfect the first time and it was a major relief after buying an aftermarket engine lid latch that didn't open after it was installed! Finally popped it open with a screwdriver...
This guy is my go to parts guy from now on. |
