We need more info from people who have birth certificates for their cars and the number(s) their cars have stamped ....

My car has a 77 there and I believe is was built on a Sunday.

a 99 use 66. If you have 88, well, my theory does not work. It could be the day the body shell was completed also.

I see a pattern here.. My '52 has a 33 stamped there.... Johnhenry's has a 66 and IN2VWS has a 99. Way TOO much of a coincidence... Perhaps its the shift number that built them..... shift 1, 2, 3....? or the stamping press number..... ?? Hmmmm The mystery continues. |

Someone with access to the factory people or older workers could check with them to see if they recall what the numbers mean.

Here is a "55" stamp on my Jan 30th 1958. The 30th was a Thursday, not sure if VW started the work week on a Sunday, if so Thursday is the 5th day? There is also the letter "B" to the left of the 55?

I wonder if the numbers had to do with which body welding jig the body was put together on? _________________ Chris |

I noticed that several domestic deliveries do not have a body number stamped. Grailoc has an all original TD 56 vert, I also have a 56 vert with no body number and no holes for the "made in western germany" tag. I will check the stampings later on.
Is the no body number thing a domestic delivery only? |

My stamp looks like two upside down Js, but more like incomplete 00s... Definitely not 77 or 99

Does it look similar to "in2vws" stampings?
