Ok, just bought a 69 stand bug for a few hundred bucks, engine seems in really good condtion though she has been sitting for a LONG time. Now the dumb question; if the gas tank is clean and has fresh gas ..do i just go about with general maintenance..like check oil, plugs etc..and then try to turn her over?...is there a certain set of procedures to do before attempting to start her? ..i quess im just looking at the old girl with cob webs all over her and its beginning to feel like a mystery on how to get her going..so any advice appreciated...thanks

Fresh oil and a tablespoon full of Marvel Mystery into each cylinder bore helps. Prime the carb after installing new fuel lines, and fire it up.

My 1835 sat idle for 10 years before I started it up (first) then I installed it into my convertible. I didn't do anything special to it before "resting" it, and nothing special to re-start it other than unplugging a fuel line to it in the donor car. If I had planned it better, or known it was going to be 10 years, I would've taken more precautions up front.

Get rid of the old gas. Unless stabilizer had been used before it was stored the gas is probably no good.

It all depends on how it was stored. Outside, with a vented hood and no air cleaner could yeild some issues. Be on the safe side. Pick up full tune up parts [including plug wires], flush the tanks and the fuel lines, like mentioned above, squirt a little Marvel Mystery Oil in the cylinders, turn it over by had a few times, and you should be in business.

good luck
