1962 was the last year for the thick doglegs. Thin doglegs started in 1963. _________________ Please check us out on Instagram at @holygrailgarage

Did they start when the louvers went to innys from outtys, isn't that the same time they went from flat wheel wells to raised lip? and changed the doglegs at that time? My mind just doesn't remember these detailed year changes. _________________ Stocking distributor of "The Funky Green Panels"

Ronnie- I can't say anything for sure in regards to when exactly the change took place as I've seen some odd combinations from around that time. I know that the flat wheel/outward vent/thick dogleg combo was what came on 1962s but then in early 1963 you will see some lipped wheel well/outward vent/thin dogleg Buses and then they went to the later lipped wheel well/inward vent/thin dogleg Buses sometime during "1963" production. _________________ Please check us out on Instagram at @holygrailgarage

So the 4.8 cm thickness is 62 and earlier? and the 2.4cm thickness is ~63 and later? _________________ 62 Turkis DC |

There are approximately 30.5 cm per foot. Or roughly 2.54 cm per inch. |

Rear wheel well lips were added at the same time that the doglegs were changed, according to VW on july of 62 at #971550. Like Buciobatisti stated, there was some strange things going on at that time. My early June 12th 62 #957602 og paint actually has the newer style skinny doglegs which hadn't even went into effect yet but still has the earlier style rear wheel wells as it should and outtie vents. Anyone else have a 62 earlier than that with skinny doglegs?

Mullens has a 15 window here, 06 11 2 . It has skinny doglegs, fat rear lips and outtie vents. Weird. Later _________________ http://s461.photobucket.com/albums/qq335/Metalwizard/

Sorry to drag up old thread. I have a 62 23 vin 847xxx that has fat doglegs. I also have a 62 23 vin 955xxx with thin doglegs. Both of which have outie vents. If there was an actual transsition it is somewhere between these two busses of mine. I would surely like a definite answer.
Neither of my 62's have lip rear well. |

Yes, they are known as "seamed" doglegs. A picture "Campingbox" posted.

My front dogs on my '59 are badly rusted. I am going to be running off road with larger tires and will have to cut the lips to clear.
Will thin lips fit and provide more clearance? I will have to cut the existing rusted ones for clearance and patch in metal and was thinking if the thins would provide better clearance, it would make a much better repair. _________________ Bad News Racing 2018 NORRA 1000 3rd in Class
