you can kind of see from this pic. I cant get center caps to fit because the hub sticks out to far. spacers wont work since my tires rub enough as it is any ideas for fitting? can i grind down the hubs? its only needed on the front the back has plenty of space. I have 3 prong spinner caps but they dont fit because the screws to tighten them in hit the hub. I would love to use porsche caps but i think i would really have to grind down the hubs. Any help would be appreciated. thanks

i also have a set of polished empis i just took them off. I have the 3 spoke "spinner style" caps that came with them but the hex bolts hit the hub and wont let it fit on. i am thinking about hamering them down so i can fit something. the back has plenty of space but the front it looks like the only way may be to bang them in. any sugestions? |

|
|
I own a red 1974 Ghia coupe. I bought 8 spoke Empi's, painted them white & also bought 3 spoke knock-off caps to put on them. The back caps will fit ok but the front won't fit past the bearing caps ! Someone suggested chrome bearing caps. Will this solve the problem? Where can I get them?
Thanks |

You'll either have to modify your bearing caps, or get new center caps. Use some clay under the bearing cap, and see how much clearance there is. Once you determine that, you may be able to tap the caps with a hammer and dent them in, so the center caps fit. It's just a thought. _________________ '67 Sunroof

Bearing caps are often refered to as grease caps. While it won't exactly solve the problem it can make your wheels look a bit better. They can be found at most VW parts suppliers. I think Larry's Offroad has them in stock.
Look at the pic below, the owner used chrome grease caps, and axle nuts to solve the problem.
One of my favorite cars BTW |

Beat the $2 grease cap down with a mallet and you'll be fine. |

Does this method apply to a 1963 grease cap on a bus?
I'm trying to install the center cap of my Empi(repros) five spokes but being that the grease cap is so wide, the center cap won't snap on. Any ideas? |

Put the cap on the wheel first, then put the wheel on the drum. |

To bring this back from the dead, I'm having the same issue. My dust caps wont clear my wheel center caps. I tried hammering them in some more but thats as far as they go.
Has anyone found a solution?
Thanks

I found a fix. Stretch, cut and weld to make new dust caps with more of a cone shape that clear the wheel's center cap. _________________ '54 Bug, '59 Speedster replica, '65 Ghia (in pieces), '66 Notch, '80 930, '85 C10, '89 928, '96 LT4 'Vette, '03.5 Esprit, '05 Elise, '06 Murcielago |
