Hey Everyone .. Just bought myself a 1957 Oval bug Smile
it's in a pretty bad shape, but had a lot of parts original .. A lot of panels need to be changed.. doors, fenders, and boot are swapped for later model ! all to be changed...
engine is not original one, but i tracked it down with it's serial number to be a 70 model ..
It has all the original suspension system and wheels/rims.
interior's a mess .. but so far no rust that can be seen, i hope it stays that way Very Happy
so far i tracked it's original color to be black, but not yet confirmed until i sand the whole body and check for historic paint Very Happy haha
i haven't looked a lot on this forum yet (i'm a newbie) but did the 57 Oval have semaphores?

Hello from Pittsburgh. I have been a member her since early 2002. Never posted but stopped by once in a while.

Thought I would share a few images of my '57. I am working on getting things straight to make it more original. I finally have been to the spot where a vintage VW was possible again. I was always a Westfalia/van fan but a camper would not fit into my current garage so I decided to go with a Type 1.

I am looking forward to spending some time here and meeting some regional members.

hope I do this right...competition for beauty rights is rough between my wife and the car. Keeping both, no trades.

bought my original paint matching numbers 57 a couple months ago. A lady school teacher bought new and kept until 1986 when she passed away. After that the car remained in storage as well as being kept up mechanically through all those years. Forutante for me I've only needed to turn the key and go so far with no problems

Here's my 54 model oval deluxe Smile

I finished restoring her in 1989, won most of the UK concours shows in 1990, then lost interest in the VW scene. She was last out on the road in 1996!

She's been properly stored ever since! I'm now currently re-commissioning her once again for the road Smile. Apart from rotten tyres and failed brake component seals due to age, she is still virtually perfect, paintwork is still all excellent, although I am going to repaint the front and rear valances due to very minor paint damage due to road debris dating back to the early 90's.

Hope to have the car out at some shows from June onwards Smile
