Sticking with the black theme....here's my ratty OG black '54. Had it a few months now and have a done a few things(Cosmics, plates, lower in the front and a few accessories). Would like to go lower and do some interior work, but it'll do for now until I feel the need for some more changes.

It took me a while to go through this entire thread. I didn't know there were so many 55's out there. Here are some shots of my May/55 that I have owned for almost 33 yrs. now, daily driven and still unrestored.
At Bug-In 30 - OCIR, Ca
Interior, back when it was still nice.
Bone Stock, taken Sept. 1983
The 36er has since been replaced w/ a 40 horse, not so OG anymore.
After a complete polish, at Bug-In 36 - California Speedway she took 2nd in Class.
At Bug-In 37 - Irwindale, Ca
At Bug-In 37 - Irwindale, Ca
At Bug-In 38 - Irwindale, Ca
At Bug-In 38, interior showing signs of wear except for the vinyl covered OG cloth door panel.

I'm jumping the gun by posting photos before I finish the last details (such as YOM 1954 California plates) but in any event here's my 'new' 1954. The chassis number indicates June manufacture. (I'm still waiting for the birth certificate from Wolfsberg.) It has some early features, like the split-style tank with 100mm cap, push-button starter, and the ivory horn button, which is as it was found in the wild.
Yeah, I know that L51 Bordeaux Red was only available for 1949-1950. But it's my all-time favorite VW paint option and I think it's stunning on an oval. So sue me.
I like the looks of the original stock VW stance so this looks mostly period correct, though certainly not to concours standards. Though I love the vintage look I also wanted it to keep up with modern traffic. (I've been driving a Model A Ford for the past 12 years. I've had enough of struggling in even light traffic.) So under the hood is a dual-port 1600 mated to a freeway flyer transmission, the brakes are disk, and it's upgraded to 12V. The semaphores work but I'm putting conventional signals into the heart lenses in back, while the front signals are disguised as fog lamps.
It's not quite as great as the two 1950 Hoffmans I've owned over the years, but I am tickled Bordeaux red to be back behind a batwing.
It started out as sort of a barn find. It hadn't been on the road since 1980. It was very solid and pretty straight, with minimal rust (not even under the battery). Original color was Polar Silver.

I'll have more pictures when I finish all the details, probably in a month. |

I've had this Coral Red '57 for 32 years now. It's my daily driver from April to the end of October each year. All matching numbers.
