I traded some needy 44 IDF's for my set back in '98 and threw 'em on the next day with my standard hardware. I rolled them for about a month and a half like that to and from school until I found out what they really were. Not 'four lug phone dials' like I had heard. I got a chill just now thinking that the lug holes are flat...I'm going to storage in the morning to look. |

I am running Turtlebacks on Savanna. i am currently using 4 sets of empi locking lugs bolts. I did not want to do a stud conversion as I have seen several fail on different cars...
Where did you get those polished and did you have to sell the farm to pay for it? That would look hella sexy on my baby... btw I use type l horn buttons for center caps. Cheap and easy to find.
Cheers

Nah, they've been long out of production. I had a set on my '66, right after I finished it. Then I had a stoopid moment & sold 'em so I could buy a set of powder-coated white cookie-cutters. Hey, what can I say; it was the mid '90's at the time. Luckily, I've managed to put together an NOS set of the 4.5" ones. I'd really like fo turn up a pair of the 5.5" for the rear set. That, and a pair of decent caps. I currently have 2 good ones & one more with a bit of corrotion on it. Who'da thunk back then, that these would have such a following? To most everybody I knew, they were just an ugly set of wheels that you ran because you couldn't afford a set of eight-spoke Empi's. _________________ Mike S.

Yes they can still be found. they are not however still manufactured. I found my set several years ago but it was a few more years before I had hardware that I could mount them with. Without doing a stud conversion.

The chromed out or polished ones look great.
I'd like something different for my bug but I'd like to stay VW.
I had looked at some of the more modern VW's but I'm not
inspired. _________________ Selling the SB:

Ah, so you're the one that got those huh. I was giving those some serious thought. I keep flip-flopping between putting a set of those on my '66 Variant (necessitating a swap back to four lug) and the re-popped Gas-burners. I mocked up my intentions on T3D's Selecta and it looks pretty darn good on the 'burners. Have to do some p-chopping to see if the 'backs will look as good.
There is a bit of sentimental involving the Superiors though. When I first finished my car, way back in the early '90s, I slapped a set of them on. Of course back then, they were just some ugly rims I picked up at the local Pic'n'Pull. Found them complete with caps, but not the correct lugs. I mistakenly sold 'em, so I could buy a set of powder-coated (white! Hey, it was the '90s) Cookie-cutters to pimp my ride out with. _________________ Mike S.

I had a set of the wide & narrow at the same time. Lugged them to many shows before I finally unloaded them. I even tried to sell them as a set of big & littles. IIRC the wider ones were 914 porsche issue & they had a larger center cap hole. Is that right? I had no caps at all for them. Think I unloaded the 2 sets for $375 to an Asian guy in Litchfield CT show.
I only had one set with caps & lugs well over 10 years ago. Sold that set for about $350 Never saw a set with caps FS again at all the VW shows since. _________________ 68 BUS
