Not unnaturally I'm interested to know how many EMPI Shorrock Supercharger Kits there are around. I think I'm right in saying Richard has one and maybe DaveM had one but most I've seen date from the Allard period of the late '60s when the Allard company took over the operation.

I suppose the number sold were limited by the comparitively high cost about 4 times the cost of a Judson kit. Surely these have to be amongst the rarest of the rare of all EMPI products.

Actually, Glenn, I was probably at my heaviest when that photo was taken, back in 2003 or 2004, at the Florida Bug Jam. Thats when I coaxed Joe into coming out for the first time in over 20 years, seeing what's become of the air-cooled VW.. he was blown away by the hi-po VW stuff, and he was especially blown away that a set of wheels he sold new for $39.95 each, were going for the prices they were... along with all the other EMPI stuff that was for sale.
He REALLY got an eyefull when he came to the Bug-In and saw some of the "street" cars, and dedicated race cars...
Anyway, since then, I've moved, changed my lifestyle, get exercise (almost) daily, and have just now gone under the 200 pound mark, from 235-240 at my heaviest.

Good deal, Jason, maybe I can get Lee Hedges and Larry Edson up here, and we can have a Type 3 Ghia sunroof cutting party in my back yard... I'll supply the sawzall and the Salmon and Dungeness crab...
Kinda like the old days, huh? Cool

That came from my friends Garrets shop in Southern NM. I tried to buy that for 10+ years and when he finally offered it up to me I didnt have the spare cash around.

I'm pretty sure this is an EMPI item based on the part number "GT1500V". Its a front bumper guard for an early Type-3. I'd like to see if this was in an EMPI catalogue.

This is how I purchased it mounted (wrong) on this Type-3 bumper. If anyone has anymore info, that would be great!

Twin-cooler and sump...

Anyone have more info on the twin-cooler? They seem to be very rare, from what little I've found on them.

I'm told they mounted to the outside of the rear window vents...

GT Question and GT Deluxe...I'm in need of a horn button decal if anyone can help!

Also after the hub and all the centre fittings for the woodrim wheel...

You can mount the "BATWING" empi oilcooler anywhere really as I mounted mine inside in the luggage compartment firewall and it was fine and I ran a little 1914 motor so it helped ALOT along with my oil cooler fan. Your missing one porsche oilcooler and the piece that goes into the case where the stock oil cooler would mount. The lines you can make up yourself it's not a big deal.

Here's some stuff from EMPI, that is one-off, unobtanium, stuff..
It's the original "Mylars" (I think that is what they are called) from the East Coast distributor of EMPI products, that was used in the 4 color offset printing process. If I could find someone with an offset machine still in operation, I guess I could literally reproduce every paper EMPI of New York had, including the "We're Meaner" decals with the"RG" on the bottom.
I got every single one, sorry about the blurry photos, I'm kinda in a hurry right now-
And NO, I am **NOT** going to reproduce any of this stuff.

Hey Johnny,

Thanks for the info'!

I'm surprised they work well IN the car. I would never have tried that.

What do you mean by Porsche oilcooler?

After your reply, I got hold of the guy I bought it from and he tells me he ran it with two stock 1600 TP coolers.

He also says he might have the adapter and will check for me! Very Happy

Thanks, Nic.

OK here's my new toy...this is a Shorrock C75bv Supercharger Kit. In the US they were marketed by EMPI...in fact the VW version is a modification of the C75b produced after Christopher Shorrock visited EMPI in the early '60 to drum up interest in their superchargers.

The collaboration between Shorrock and EMPI wasn't a great success as very few superchargers were sold. That's not to say the Shorrock Kit for the VW was no good...far from it, Shorrock had the reputation as the "Rolls Royce" of superchargers. They were far and away the best engineered of all the small superchargers but just too expensive to crack the volume VW market.

In 1966 the basic EMPI Shorrock Kit sold for just short of $400...at the same time you could buy the Judson Kit for $144.
