OK, what's a case insert or a stepped stud and how do they work?
And the studs: how do you "back them out"? Jam two nuts together at the end and turn them CCW?

Here's a step stud http://www2.cip1.com/PhotoGallery.asp?ProductCode=VHD%2DN14%2D4521
An "insert" is a threaded hole threaded into a hole.
Both will require drilling and tapping the case.

That's what I do.

If the damaged stud is sticking out still, grab it with a pair of vise grips and un-screw it. Remember "right for tight, left for loose". They sell new studs. If it's broken flush with the case then you will have to drill a hole in the stud and use an easy out to hopefully unscrew it. If it does unscrew, replace it with a new one.

Thank you Gents, for the link and for the advice. Since the studs are not broken, "only" stripped I'm going for the vise grip removal option.
I'll verify how many studs I need and order a couple more from Cip1.

Thanks again Very Happy
